ok now i've managed to format it and put on the newest firmware....but it its very temperamental and if it decided to come off the phillips screen at all it takes a very long time.....

the hard drive is making very unhealthy noise's....i still think i may need to replace it.

any ideas?

I think this is normal. This is the same for me. I guess it's launched automatically. The goal of chkdsk is to check if there are errors on the disk and to repair them if any

Please try your set to Philips Sevice centre....i think that you harddisk damage....
On the other hand, Could you send any data file through Windows Explorer?????

I had the same problem. I formatted it and when I start DMM I don't run chkdisk. It works fine but if I run chkdisk it starts acting up again.

i think the hard disk is beyond repair......i'm gonna buy a new hard disk.......a 20gb one!

that should work i hope!

Why the DMM can't run DMM Chkdisk?
It is a simple common problem at DOS enoviroment , the Harddisk is access at the another application...e.g. windows explorer... please close all the program then the chkdisk will work well....Please try

Why not just call Philips customer support, Get a return authorzation, sent it to them and let them fix the damn thing! Hard drives do fail.

i have no warranty.......(especially now i've opened it up to look inside it)

the amount i'd pay for parts and labour would be the same as just buying a new one probarly

Why is there no warranty? Did you have not have warranty card? Did you not know that opening it up to look inside could possibly void the warranty? Would philips be able to tell you opened it?

One of my friends got his new HDD100 and one week later his hard drive crashed. Called Philips, sent it in and one week later a brand new one was at his door.

When you start tinkering with stuff, one must be prepared to pay the price as far as warranties go.

Good luck
