I never saw Pitch Black. I wonder if I should see it before I decide if I want to watch Chronicles of Riddick.

Probably a good idea, Pitch Black helped identify Riddicks character. Although both movies are not directly tied together.
This is actually a trilogy and there will be another after the chronicles of Riddick from what I have read.

This looks absolutely phenomenal. Definitely my type of film. It seems to fuse that old, ancient, but yet extremely advanced, futuristic ambience rather well. Somwhat like "Dune"(the mini series version), or even "The Legend of Zu". Although the latter may not be futuristic, they still seem to share similar fantasy elements.

I'm not sure if seeing "Pitch Black" would be necessary, I'm assuming this story ("Chronicles"), most likely takes place prior to "Pitch", and may even give some insight as to how Riddick came to be in his position as a prisoner.(?) I don't now, just a hunch.

From what I have read, this takes place after Pitch Black when Riddick fled in the space craft. I am hoping its as epic as Dune was when it came out. I like that they are focusing a lot on the storyline in this movie.
i've never seen/heard of pitch black. can you give a description?

In short, it's a sci-fi film where a mixed crew aboard a space vessel become stranded on a strange planet with multiple suns that make everything look a bit blue. They discover that an amazing phenomena is amongst them, where a solar eclipse ,which will block out all light from the planet, will soon take place. During this time, the plantes' inhabitants, (a species of bio genetically superior flying predators, who are apparently hypersensitive to light), surface from within their underground catacombs for a feasting frenzy.

This sounds great if it actually takes place after, we'll be able to see what became of Riddick post "Pitch Black". And if it is anywhere near as epic as "Dune/Children of Dune", it's bound to be an amazing film.
