To mee 200K subscribers just doesn't seem like a whole lot for a system that has been out a while and had millions spent on satellites and other equipment.

I think that XM charges $9.95/mo
so thats about $2 million. Plus there are advertisiers, albiet very few. I wonder how many years it will be until they are profitable?

Probably when content becomes Ad driven and these SAT receivers come standard on all cars. Very few people (statistically) are going to buy into a system they essentially get for free (listen to commercials). We all lost big when cable tried a similiar model and failed, I'm hoping the US consumer has learned that lesson (probably hasn't). If not, we will be paying a monthly fee for radio and have constant commercials just like cable.

If XM comes out with a home tuner / boombox that can be activated for like an extra buck or two in addition to the $10 for the car model, I might be interested. I mean, I spent most of my listening time at home or work, not on the road. I suspect many people also fit this category.

But as it is, I hate to upgrade my current head unit for $200 only to find out they'll go out of business a year from now.

I would be very very interested in a home tuner box as well. I love to turn the lights low, and sleep on the sofa listening to good music, without a million commercials. I would also like the techno station for when I am in the computer room.

Thats the scary thing about technnology, you just don;t know if it will stay around.
