I hope someone can help me. My desktop has gone crazy, my wallpaper is under a gray screen that turns white whenever I put my mouse over a shortcut, open window, or start button. I can see my wallpaper when I shut down so I know it is still there. This all started when I got hijacked by all sorts of nasties. I have removed mstasks2.exe, TIBS41 dialer, and all sorts of other spyware. I have updated Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, CWshredder, and Spyware Blaster, along with my Norton AntiVirus 2003 v.9.05.15.
I have loaded my computer in diagnostics mode from msconfig, and the gray screen still comes up. In safe mode the gray screen does not come up. I can not figure out were this is coming from. I can still use my computer like normal. I have included a hijackthis file so you can see if anything looks fishy.

What is this? O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IMEKRMIG6.1] C:\WINDOWS\ime\imkr6_1\IMEKRMIG.EXE
You may just need to clean your system up. Try a program like Tune-up Utilities, that is what I use.

Right-click on your desktop, properties, appearance. Make sure a valid theme is selected.
And yes.. you have way too much crap starting up with your computer. You can disable a lot of that. It looks like you have an APC UPS though ... that's a good thing!

Thanks for the reply
I downloaded and ran tune-up utilities 2004, went through all of the options and cleaned up my system. Still no luck.
I went through my Hijack This log and looked up a lot of the files. I have a few questions about cleaning it up.

I looked these up on the internet and they are for a asian typing translator thing. I'm not in the habit of typing any asian language, so I was wondering if I can get rid of these and should I delete the files off of my hard drive and through Hijack This.
I was also wondering if I should have two
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe
running?
My big concern is still my desktop being gray and changing to white when I move my mouse over a program.
Thanks for the input.
Rob
What video card do you have and what driver version??
My driver loads its OWN colors at different times, and I set the Driver to load Prog spacific for each prog.

When I right click on the gray screen I don't get the normal desktop options. I get forward, back, save background as..., set as background, copy background, set as desktop item (all of which ar grayed out), select all (is black), paste, create short cut, add to favorites... (all gray again), view source, encoding, print, refresh, properties (all are black).

The video card that I have is a NVIDIA GeForce MX 440 SE with driver 56.72 (the newest driver) I had just installed it hopeing it might be a driver problem.
I hoping not to have to reinstall windows and everything else.
thanks for the help everyone.
sounds like ya got Active desktop running, and a prog to change it from the web.
Start, setting, control panel, DISPLAY...
If you can, turn off, active desktop.

I love you man (or woman), I can't thank you enough.
You hit the nail on the head....:cheers
Under Display Properties, Customize Desktop, Web Tab
there is a web page: security
once I unchecked that, my problems disappered
Doing Comp diagnostics AWAY from the comp, is so much fun.
What could be done if 1 of us was there would have taken 20 minutes.

Hi, I seem to have a similar problem. I have the same desktop.html file appearing and reappring. I disable Active Desktop in the same way as above and my background reappears. When I try to run Explore.Exe or Iexplore.Exe, they both crash and I get the Desktop.Html file back again!

HI, sorry I haven't replied for a while but I've been away from this PC.
I have done everything which you recommended and it got rid of the problem I had. So, thanks very much for that! :-)
I now have another issue - the msadocm32.dll Virus. Norton Virus Checker says it's there but it can't clear it or delete it. Here is my latest HijackThis log:
