I think the lack of a Compact Flash card isn't as big of a deal since one can get a CF->PC Card adapter for not too much. Yeah, it's one more thing to carry, but it's not as big of a deal breaker IMNSHO.

Yeah I agree. Besides, compactflash is on the way out, its just too big IMO. SD is where its at.

CF is actually very useful for larger Flash storage, but I agree... SD (and SDIO) seems to be where the industry is moving towards. Now if only they could get SD transfer rates a little faster, mostly writes, then it's the best of both worlds in terms of size and utility.

ya. So what is the largest SD card you can buy right now? 1.5GB or somewhere around there right?

The largest that I have seen is 1GB, but I wouldn't be suprised if a 2GB one is out or close to being released.

Yeah, when we were at CES a couple years back they were showing up 2GB SD cards and their product went up to like 5GB over the next few years apparently.

The compaq R3000 is a waste of time and money. I spent over $1,100 for one and it broke less than a year after I bought it. The power port inside the notebook gets detached from the motherboard. This means that the battery will not charge and the notebook become useless after the battery runs out. Furthermore, compaq customer service is terrible. They know about the problem since this happens to most R3000 notebooks but continue to deny it. Then they tell you on top of the cost of the computer you have to spend over $600 to replace a part that is $20 that was meant to break in the first place. I am not the only one with this issue so PLEASE research this notebook before you buy it and you will find that this problem is very common.

My R3000 had the same power problems with the connector. I found a nice easy solution by buying a HP docking station for $75 and bypassing the power connector in the back. It was worked wonderfully. it also gives you extra USB ports and an built in Altec Lansing Speaker.

Try this: Goto "Start",click "Settings", Goto "Control Panel",
click "The Mouse Icon". Check your settings and if it's not the way you want it, change it to the way you want it to work.
Hope this works. One more thing...just above the mouse pad there's a small bar. Make sure the lite to the left to it is on.

I don't know how or where other people use their laptop. I use mine in an 18 wheeler,I'm a truck driver that runs all 48 states and Canada. My Presario R3000 is mounted on a home made stand that is not computer friendly.
The roads in this country will put any laptop through hell, I don't think any company puts them through that kind of test. But my Compaq Presario R3000 has been through it for 2 or 3 years. My routing and GPS software are running all the time. The power cord will come unplugged from time to time from all the vibrating and pounding it goes through. The screen is always open and all programs are running. The screen takes quite a bit of abuse and remains steady fast.
I'm not into gaming so the quality of the flash cards or graphics card is not a big issue for me.I was looking for durability, I found it in this R3000.:cheers
