 A client of mine is having a slowness issue using XP Pro. when using their signon, the machine creeps along and looks as if frozen but then eventually finishes the request. But when logged off and back on with my signon, the XP machine runs smoothly and has NO problems. Both profile signons have admin rights... What do I look for and how do I fix it?

Sorry for the long delay in replying, I just noticed your post. Were you able to get everything working? I sometimes have this issue at home with the multiple machines I have and the only thing I can think of is that the computer is trying to get a network IP address and permissions which is why it takes so long logging on.

I would be curious to see what you found out and/or fixed.

That and another thing I can think of, again is download programs. Does you client download music/video/software/pictures from any programs such as KaZaA, Morpheous, WinMX, etc.? Especially software, can corrupt your regestry key and slow down computer performance. Another thing might be his start up programs...log onto his desktop and go to "Start" and then "Run"...in the prompt type in "MSCONFIG" without the quotes. A window will pop up and find the tab that says "Startup". See how many programs he has loading when the computer logs on. Programs such as Microsoft Office, MSNMSG, AIM, KaZaA, and other programs DO NOT need to start up at boot up. If there is a word, or program that you do not understand, leave it...you don't want to cancel any required startup programs.

Aye, check your msconfig and see what is starting up as programs, also check your Services, you'd be amazed what crap loads there. (admin tool > services)

Run a spyware check too, like with Ad-Aware, because you might have gator or BDT loading up and slowing ya down.

More than likely the issue is with the contents of his my documents & the number of files on his desktop.

Although this primarily happens in a DOMAIN enviroment with roaming profiles, ive seen this happen on standalones as well

Look in his documents & settings folders for his profile & see if you can find any huge files lurking... especially if hes got his .pst files for email (personal email folders) with large amounts of emails with attachments. ;) You would find those under "application data".

So it is any software installed on the system which is specific to that particular user. So for example, if person A installs Real player only for their profile, then when person B logs on they would not be affected. This sounds like the problem to me. Am I on the same track as you Shorty?
