I have had no problems with it since i got it (used).
no problems charging it, no problems transfering mp3's,
battery life has been pretty good, up till now.
I let the battery run out while tranfering, and it just hasnt come back on since??????
what do I do, can i take it to a service center and pay to have it fixed, send it to philips, take it apart and try to fix, or trash it?

oh yah...apparently thats bad. There was a specific warning saying to keep the hdd100/hdd120 charged while transferring...argh, cant remember what to do...hmmm. Well, do not try to fix it yourself, that probably wouldnt work out well. I doubt a service center would really help. I would definately send it to Philips especially if it had been working great....you will probably have to pay a relatively small fee, though, because it was your fault, after all...ya, i know, its stupid that something like that could break it, but these things are delicate.
Good luck!

sounds similar to my problem. i do have win 98se that dies a lot and has died when the hdd has been plugged in. philips service hasnt corrected my problem yet after 2 times sent in and i am trying to get them to send me a new player. the thing just wont turn on (eccept the day after i have it plugged in for 2 days and then unplug it but then it promptly stops working soon within a fiew hours.) good luck with your player. maby it will not start when their are mp3 fragments.

yo, this is my first post, so ... be happy for that!
now, i've had this problem too.. and i'm SURE this isnt good... but i think at least while it's within the warranty period, and instead of staring at a black shiny thing rather than listen to it, you can do what i've done. and it works.. but it will cost around $20. i bought a sony dual voltage adapter that plugs into a car lighter socket. it charges on the low voltage while i'm driving and it's fine. but when it locks up like that, i plug the hdd in, on low voltage, then switch from low to high voltage, then right back to low voltage. it will "jumpstart" the player and it'll work. i think a mini surgeprotector comes on and snaps the unit back into place. this also works if your screen ever freezes and unit wont turn off.
that was my original problem w/the player, and trust me, dealing w/the service dept is like boring out your own throat with a drill bit.
btw, about the sony charger, i purchased it at the Good Guys, and it's the one that comes with a converter to tape so i can play the thing in my car, it's actually very useful if you can tactfully hide all the wires

This did not do a thing for me, I have a universal charger that goes from 4 to 12 volts and it didnt do anything. so I am still mourning the death of my precious.
