I've had an M6811 for about a week now and this thing amazes the heck out of me. I don't know how they managed to squeeze so much power into such a relatively cheap ($1449 after rebates) machine. Are there any other owners of these out there? Let's chat! :)

Why?
What you need?

Don't really NEED anything, just looking for other people who have these for their opinions and maybe some tweaking tips, that's all.

just wondering...
And keeping this on top, so others can see it.

Which windows ya got? XP? 2000?

Tweaking is a pain, and laptops dont make it easy..Only 1 suggestion...Change 1 thing at a time, and play with it... If it dont work or you dont like it, you can take if off by Recovering back 1-2 days... Dont do, 100 twaeks, and find that SOME dont work with others.

I'm running the XP Home that came pre-loaded. I haven't d/led SP2 yet, because the version that is available now is for developers and IT professionals and contains a lot of things that the average user doesn't need. I don't understand why so many people are so eager to jump the gun before it gets put on Windows Update. The more things you add, the greater the chances that you will make Windows unstable or even unusable.

I've upped the speed on the video to as high as 440/225 without glitchiness. I also managed to get the CPU up to nearly 2.4 ghz before throwing the PCI bus out of whack. I don't know why, but in PCMark2002 both CPU and memory scores rise when I do this, but HD access falls off. What could be causing this?

Its the CACHE...Video cache to the HD, is 10 for 1. For every 1 meg it wants, it TAKES 10. Also the HD is 1/1000 the speed of the video card.

Heres some math for ya...
Take the RES,
640x480
Multiply by the BIT depth...8,16,32
640x480x16=4,915,200
5 megs just for your display at 16 bit.
800x600x16=7,680,000
8 megs
1024x768x16=12,582,912
13 meg
This does NOT include Texture cache...Loading ALL the textures in the backgroud to be used.. Games do it 2 ways.. 1 in RAM, 1 on the HD. And it takes LOTS of ram.

Hey!

New to the Forums, but I have the M6811. Wonderful machine, but I orginally had the 6809, but I also have the BB warranty and since my 6809 got cracked hinges, I was able to get the 6811, and $358.00 in BB Bucks and rebates. But alas, having my new 6811 for only a few weeks, I went to install a new program and my DVD Drive started to vibrate LIKE CRAZY! I guess it is time to trade it in AGAIN. Looks like I am going to call BB tomorrow.

Other than that, I love my new toy!
