:eww I replaced my XP 2000+ with XP 2400+. It's getting hotter and hotter and then damaged my power supply. I replaced the SMPS 3 times now. I don't wanna burn my money again unless ......???. Sow, now I operated my PC with cabinet open and switched it off when the temp. goes beyond 60. What should I do ? Will replacing the cooler help and where can I find a good cooler within India. :censored Please help me before I burn myself.
I'd change the PS for a higher wattage...
Also consider a Extra fan, or cooler system.
There is something interesting ALOT of folks do think about.
At 90 degrees Ferenhiet(sp) in your room, you dont have enough temp difference to cool your computer.
Like a car, in 120F degree heat...Cant run far. The radiator cant cool the engine fast enough and the AIR coming thru isnt taking the heat away fast enough.
As for shopping in india, I dont think I can get that far.

Thanks for the suggestion. I already installed extra fan on the cabinet and my PS is 300 watts. What cooler system will be best for the CPU ???
Only 300?
Iv got that on a p3 450...
You want to over rate your PS... A PS that uses only 1/2 whats required LASTS along time. If you use 75%, you may get 1-2 years max, probably less.
There is an efficentcy rating on HIGH quality PS...There rated at a certain level of %.. I havent seen many CHEAP ones that are better then 65%.
Look for at least a 400watt, this also gives you a chance to add, more HD, Floppy, and other items, with out Causing problems.
A cooling system WONT help if you aint got the power. And there are many, from water cooled to FULL refigeration systems.

Try an aftermarket CPU cooler from like CoolerMaster. It almost sounds like you are not seating the heatsink correctly on the CPU.
Try an aftermarket CPU cooler from like CoolerMaster. It almost sounds like you are not seating the heatsink correctly on the CPU.
But then it wouldnt be just the PS.. The system would get problems poping up, about Exception errors in ram, and the CPU may be damaged.
But it IS something to look at..
ALOT of problems are from system cooling, this comes from FLAT cables thru the system making it hard on Air flow.
Air flow not getting to where it NEEDS to be..
Heat sinks NOT big enough, or made from DECENT materials(copper, and silver are best, alumanum is about 3rd or 4th).
AND the idea that you cant cool the room you are in... What is the tempiture in your room..

Thanks - ECA & Ioman. I'll check the heatsink. I think my room temp. is about 20-30 and sometimes may be a bit higher. My heatsink is Alluminium with rounded Copper in the centre. Where can I get a better heatsink and fan like CoolerMaster within India ?
I'd love for someone to make a COPPER heat sink..
Talk to someone over there... Probably a VERY good product, and market..

I've checked the heatsink and its OK. I removed my ATI Radeon 9200SE Graphic card and now my problem is only the heat. It's difficult for me to get a good heatsink like Copper here (Aizawl, Mizoram (India). I asked all the vendors an they don't have it. I also asked the dealer of CoolerMaster and don't have it right now, but it will be available after 3/4 weeks. Shall I wait for this or change my CPU to 1800 or 2000 ???
EL,
Take yours into a place that deals with metal, or a machenist shop...your aluminum one..
See if they can MAKE one...
You are in a part of the world, that does LOTS of metal work..
