I got a new video card and its an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro AGP. So I inserted it into the slot and it says in the manual that u have to connect it to the power supply and the hard drive. I connected it to the power supply but i cant seem to find a slot for it to be connected into the hard drive. There is a wire connected into the hard drive already and it seems to come from the power supply. So i turned on my computer without connecting the video card into the hard drive. I checked what video card my computer had now and it said that i had the ATI Radeon 9800 PRO but then when i put in the CD that came with the card and it started to install and then it started to install the windows XP Driver but then it comes up with an error that says "Setup was unable to complete the installation. Try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup". What does this mean? So do I have to connect my video card to the hard drive? And if I dont does it affect any gameplay? Another reason I ask this is becuase evytime i play Doom 3 it looks a little choppy and it sometimes lags. And im thinking to myself "This is supposed to be one of the best video cards". So im just thinking if i dont connect it to the hard drive will it effect my game? Sorry this questioln is sooo long!

I dont know alot yet, but lets see.
1, WHo made your card? ATI dont make them all.
2. go to makers site and get current updates and drivers... The ones on the CD, may not be the best, or LAST drivers made.
3. make sure you got ROOM on your Hard drive.

Also,
What computer you got...
AGP 4x,8x ???
Which 9800...xt, pro, or BLANK...?

Accelerator card, you MUST do the following
BEFORE replacing your current graphics card with your
new ATI card:
Install AGP Drivers for non-Intel Chipset Based
Motherboards. Several AGP motherboard
manufacturers use non-Intel AGP chipsets. Chipsets
include those made by Acer Laboratories (ALI),
Silicon Integrated Systems (SIS), and VIA
Technologies, Inc. Each non-Intel chipset requires
the installation of a custom Virtual GART (AGP)
Driver. This driver is required by your new ATI card
to function correctly with your motherboard. It is
very important that the correct AGP driver be
installed before installing an AGP video card in your
system.
This section applies to AGP Graphic Accelerator
cards only.

DID you install the Mobo, AGP drivers..UPDATED versions??

The power connector, is ONLY THAT...
You can place into any of the power connectors that FIT.

ALSO,
Make sure you run DXDIAG after the installation...
Do a search and run it...This is the DirectX setup

you dont NEED the HD...
Any of those connectors will work. Its just a power jumper.

Ya, its a funny way to add power to the board...But maybe there wasnt enough rescources from the connection on the board.

Mother board, IF you had a clone based machine.

1. HAVE you gone into the BIOS and disabled(if you can) the onboard video???
If NOT then the system isnt seeing your card...

Winxp is fine...As for the HP Pavilion, Which one?? It should say on the front.

Is this a PCI card, or AGP??
