I have an HP Pavillion a520n. The bios seems to lock the processor speed settings. I want to overclock it, as to utilize my processors capabilities. I have tried a few copying over a few bios using Afudos, but it says the ROMID's don't match. I imagine it's some sort of retarded HP protection. IS THERE a way I can replace the bios, without having to buy a new one? Please anyone can help me would be super-mega-appreciated. Thanks!!

Ummm,
Dont.
The board is probably Auto sencing...And cant be changed.
yes you could probably get another Bios Loaded but will it work on this board.

I was told if I ordered a bios replacement from ASUS, I could take the bios out of this board physically, & replace it with this one. As a last resort. But surely there must be some other way to replace the bios, without having to go through that.

yes there is, you can reprogram it...
BUT, HP customized it... Unless you get a bios Upgrade(software) from HP, it Probably WONT work...
This is HOW they keep there copyright... Your bios MUST recognize the CHIPS on the board and KNOW how to configure them. NOt the EXTRA boards, on the mother board...
The PCI Chip, the SIS chip, the intell chips, to make EVERYTHING work.

If you are willing to make SCRAP mother boards, DO IT.
IF you have NEVER done this before....DONT PLAY AROUND. This is NOT something to play with. Its the controll for EVERYTHING.

THIs is harware, this ISNT software drivers that you can FAKE out and REDO... IF you mess it up, you will have a piece of GARBAGE, and MAY NEVER get it back. AND you are hoping REAL hard that the BIOS isnt soldered ONTO the board.

Unless HP put out a BIOS upgrade, I wouldnt do it...
IF the Warrenty is OVER, you can do anything you wish...

Playing with hardware is a gamble at ANYTIME. Even OVERCLOCKING, burns the chip out faster, If not totally(mistakes). Dont play with what YOU cant afford to REPLACE at FULL price...
You may ASK how I know this... Hmmm, I WONDER???
