Compaq Presario 1500T power cycles on own

My compaq Presario 1500T running XP powers up, shuts down over and over again. Won't accept recovery discs or repair console. Any ideas?

Hello. You might want to try cleaning the cpu fan and intake screen then reseating the processor heat sink w/ artic silver heatsink grease. (follow intructions) This problem (cpu overheating)will cause the compaq's to shut down and is relatively easy and cheap to fix.
