I am new to dvd burning so am a bit stuck as to why my dvd burner won't burn dvds!
I have a KHypermedia Model KDVRW8X burner.

I have yet to burn a dvd successfully.
I use the latest version of nero & get right to the end of the burn process & get a burn fail error. (see log file attached)
No data is written onto the disc as it reads as 'empty'.
The funny thing is I can successfully burn CDs OK.
It is a DVD+RW burner & I have the correct media (+)
I have also tried different burn speeds as low as 2x.
The minimum specs on the box state a PIII 800 processor. I have an AMD 700 processor with heaps of RAM & HDD space - would the processor be an issue?
Anyway I have no idea why I can't burn DVDs.

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Error log is attached.

Try putting the writer on its own IDE channel, that might help. Have you tried using different writing programs other than Nero? Maybe Easy CD Creator.

I have never heard of that brand of DVD writer before, does Nero say it is compatible with it? Has DVD writing ever worked with this writer?

How do I change the IDE?
Burner came bundled with Nero software in the box.
I have only had the burner for a few weeks & haven't had any successful DVD burns. Only CDs.

http://www.khypermedia.com/products.htm

http://www.khypermedia.com/dvdrw_dri_8x.html

Type of media it use: CDR/RW, DVD+R/RW

* DVD-R are not recommended.

ALSO saw that there is a HARDWARE firmware update, you should check the version numbers.

He's already stated he is using +, not -.

Looking at the error log, there are errors adding files, and there are "Sesion fixation error" along with unable to close the disc-at-once type of burn. What type of dvd are you trying to burn, a data DVD or creating a video dvd? If you are trying to create a video dvd, what type of file is the source file (divx/avi/asf/etc?)

What version of Nero do you have? Try upgrading to the latest version. Get the latest firmware for your drive as well.

Also try doing a different type of burn if possible, like track-at-once instead of disc-at-once.

1. this is the MINIMUM...Suggest you go to 1x, and make SURE there are NO backgraound tasks...NO IM, NO extra programs running.
You say you have LOTS of ram, DO YOU HAVE 1 GIG??
Also check your Storage cache... IT MUST BE AT LEAST the size you are burning, if NOT MORE....

Firstly thanx for all your replies! Fantastic!
Ok I will answer all the posts in order;
1. I'm using correct media & have the latest firmware.
2. Trying to create a video DVD. Firstly used Nero to create the vid files & chapters etc then try to burn.
Am using latest version of Nero. Will try doing TAO instead of DAO - cheerz.
3. By heaps of RAM I mean I meet min specs - I have 512mb.
The lowest I can burn is 2x (which I have already tried) I will shut down all background tasks & try again - cheerz. Will also check storage cache.

Thanx people!! :-)

What OS are you on? Do you have a DVD+RW disc handy? If so, try creating just a normal data DVD and see if that works. If it does, then using the DVD+RW try doing just one video clip, then move to two, etc. Maybe there is a specific video clip that is causing it to barf.

Well isolating the ide had no effect. Didn't think it would as the drive worked fine before.
Flashed the dvd with the latest benq update.
I will probably contact khypermedia as it seems to be a hardware issue. I ts rockwell hardware and this looks like a hardware issue. also loaded latest aspi...no effect.
I would love to have the specs on this and open her up, but i don't want to kill the warranty. will probably r.m.a. to khypermedia.

If you have a system with LESS then 1ghz CPU, it MAY not work..
Min on this drive is 800mhz P3...
