Hi solon,

Of course congratulations for all your work.. it's invaluable to all of us :thumb
Having in mind the final update [0.9.8] i have a few points/questions on the function of the hddtool.
I guess some stuff could be easily implemented as optional and save some trouble.

1. Playlists.
I guess they are renamed because of the length of their filename.
The problem is that they re displayed renamed at the HDD too, so they re not very usefull like that..
The way i do it, is to find which playlist is which and rename it (from explorer). It will then display it correctly at the HDD. I have actually written a small script that keeps backup of the correctly named PLPs and overwrites the whole SYSTEM\PLAYLIST directory each time hddtool is closed.
Isnt it possible to do that automatically? it can be done since i do it "manually" :)

2.how can i disable it from scanning all folders in hdd?
Despite the "use MUSIC folder" option, the new version causes scanning, renaming and adding to the database of all the audio files on the hdd disk.
That's obviously inconvenient cause many of us, use the hdd as an external drive as well, and transfer tons of music through it...

3.Finally, though i doubt it is easily feasible, can you think of any way to make a .PLP file out of a .CUE file??
That would be unbelievably helpful for those of us recording live sets or such, cause as you know when having a 3hours-long mp3 file, you cannot go directly to
,say, minute 96' when listening to it... I mean the philips guys are unbelievable; you can browse through the files using superscroll but you cant navigate fast enough inside a file ?!~what were they thinking??

Now, ill just stop. Cause hey, you re the man and i dont want to make you tired..

Cheers :cheers
&thankss

G

I would just like to add that Solon is doing a great job so far. I haven't found anything else like this that works. I get the occasional lock up, but it's becoming less frequent. i experienced a filename corruption and holy crap did that screw things up. the rebuild didnt work well. i could not view the files under the directories in the player, but they would play if i selected the artist and hit play. all the files lost their original names, but no biggy, i transfered them onto a pc, then over again. restored operation. i also cleared the names list before hand. started fresh. i like this tool because it doesnt install anything onto the host pc. thats handy on workplace pc's. :) I would like to know exactly how to use the playlist transfer. I mean how do i build a playlist with winamp for these files? that would be nice to know.

if i understood correct, you want to make a PLP playlist from the files stored in hdd, using winamp, right?
that's easy actually.. just load the hddtool, switch mode, go to explorer and pick the tracks u want, put them in the winamp and then save the m3u playlist somewhere in MUSIC folder in hdd (use a name under 8 characters so as not to be renamed afterwards). Then rebuild list from hddtool, switch mode again and exit.
That's it i guess.

Hi,

HDDTool is able to create an automatic playlist for each folder dropped from your PC to HDDTool.

you need to use option "Auto create Playlist" in "Settings" menu before to transfer a folder.

I hope this will answer your question ;)
