After a format and a inital load of 2000 MPs's on my HDD100 the Windows XP diskanalyser advises me to defragment the HDD!
If you look at the analysis graph you see all the files scattered over the disk.

Any idea why the files are not placed in a joined format on the HDD100? There must be a reason for it.

Is defragmenting advised?

Be aware, if it's done the unit gets terribly hot!

I can see why it gets hot...
The HD is for intermitant use. It sends the MP3 to the ram and then shuts down to save power.
Wait alittle bit, others may answer your porblem of Data integrety.

The HDD will get warmer (or hot) with a defrag but gets just as warm when you load gigabytes of music that takes 20 or so minutes.

Windows just does not place files on a drive as orderly as it should. Many suggest that after installing Windows OS, one should do a defrag. The HDD is no different.

Defragging the HDD is good for the drive and shortens boot time and wait time for the HDD finding music files.
