Batou is a cyborg investigating the case of a gynoid-a hyper-realistic female robot created specifically for sexual companionship-who malfunctions and slaughters her owner. As Batou delves deeper into the investigation, questions arise about humanity's need to immortalize its image in dolls, robots with no human elements at all. The answers to those questions lead to the shocking truth behind the crime and quite possibly the very meaning of life.

Batou is a living cyborg. His whole body, even his arms and legs are entirely man-made. What only remains are traces of his brain and the memories of a woman. In an era when the boundary between humans and machines has become infinitely vague, Humans have forgotten that they are humans. This is the debauchery of the lonesome "ghost" of a man, who nevertheless seeks to retain humanity. Innocence... Is what life is.

This is funny, I came here SPECIFICALLY to post about this. I saw it on Friday, and all I can say is WOW! If you enjoyed the first film, then this is a must see. Definitely a sequel that doesn't disappoint. The first film had a sense of depth throughout that kept you captivated until its climactic finale, that same level of depth is retained in this installation, and even elevated to new hieghts.

An engaging, complex story involving pleasure-bots who bear a striking resemblance to the work of Hans Bellmer, a hacker who makes the puppet master look like a novice, the fluid marriage of CG and cell animation, and an unexpected cameo make for a sensory feast. You'll find yourself increasingly amazed as you loose track of reality while the Section 9 officers' minds are hacked into, blurring the lines of actuality and psychosis. To put it succinctly, simply amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed this film, even WITH the subtitles. Can't wait to own this one.

I've heard mixed stuff about the first one. Some people like it, while others don't. And some people say it's hard to understand the first time through.

I definitely liked what I saw of the first one, but I've never sat through the whole thing..

So maybe I'll rent the first one soon. But I think that it's awesome that another anime is hitting the theaters here in the US

Personally, I loved the first one. I bought it when it first hit the stores, and to this day I can't seem to go a week without popping it in the player. Hands down, one of my favourite films of all time. And an excellent source of artistic inspiration.

It is great to see anime in the theatres, and from what I hear, GITS:2 had a larger U.S. release than Princess Mononoke(another great film), despite 'Princess having Disney's backing. Over the past two years, we've seen a few hit the big screen, Patlabor, Spirited Away, Cowboy Bebop:The Movie, 'Mononoke, and now GITS:2. It's great to get a chance to see it on the large screen before purchasing it on DVD.

What Iv always had a problem with is that Japan has been doing Animation Movies and Series for ALONG time... And getting it over here, has SUCKED.
It either dont get here, EVEN Undubbed, or they RE-EDIT it to some piece of #@$@ Like Sailor moon. Which is an ADULT cartoon in Japan.

Wonderful. I might have to check out the first one soon. Speaking of which, I have Princess Mononoke the movie, but I haven't had a chance to watch it, I heard great things about that too.
