Where In Idaho do you live? I drove from Coure'de Lene to Missoula Montana a few years ago, some of the most beautiful country Ive ever seen..........Jim :thumb
Im on the plains, in southern Idaho... Near twinfalls..
I was raised in a smallish town, and went to portland for 20 years.
Got tired of persons screwing with me and no kiss afterwards, as well as my disability got the best of me. So, I moved back to where the family was and the cost of living MUCH cheaper.

Ok I know where that is, We drove by there on the way to Ketchum. I was in Portland for 8 months last year(stayed with my sister)looking for work, not much work up there now so I came back here in June. I'm gonna check out Arizona in the near future. The cost of living is much better there. I like it here but refuse to pay 1200 and up dollars a month for a run down one bedroom apartment. And that doesnt count the utilities. When I can buy a condo in AZ and pay much less for mortgage...........Jim :vivi
Very true...
The cost of living in portland is getting REAL stupid.
Water bill...
$8 for water to flush toilet.
$24 for sewer
$24 maintenance fee
$56 a month...to flush a toilet.
In this area its about $35, and that includes a 60 gallon trash can, thats picked up fror FREE..
Portland thats $40 MORe to pick up the trash.

You don't have to tell me. I likve in Portland. This city was ranked as the most overpriced place to live in America.
Nightowl, $1200 is a lot! I had a two bedroom 1500 SF apt in Beaverton (west of Portland) for $1000. Right on the max line. It had a laundry room, 9 ft ceiling and corian counter tops.

Yea Beaverton is nice, My sister lives in Tigard. I was there close too a year. That Ice Storm was an expierience. Lots of nice places to see. Columbia River Gorge, Silver Falls, Mt. Hood, Lost Lake.
The prices in California are way out of line. time to get out of here. Everything is high here. Gasoline $2.50 a gallon. Renting is way out of line and jobs are paying less than before. Its a real mess here.........Jim :eww
If ya like N. Portland, I know a GREAT house.
BUT, even here, the cali's are coming up and RAISEING the cost of living.
Building a company out here is cheap, if your willing to teach those you hire. And we ned the jobs.
Kids cant find many, and head for the big cities. A farm can only get so small before it cant survive.
DELL, even made a customer service building here. And pay is abit low, compared to other places.

I wouldnt mind lower pay as long as I can afford everything else...........jim
for what you PAY in cali, you can purchase in Idaho.
A House on a lot(50'x100') starts at $30k, and that price goes up... At $100k the house is as big as the LOT....And $150k you get 2 stories covering the LOT.
OR pay $20k for an IMPROVED lot(water, electric, gas) and BUILD your own.
Around here,, if you make $20k ayear you got money.
Figure I LIVE on <$700 amonth...

Not bad, Here in California a 3 bedroom house would cost you $550,000. Back in 1995 I bought a condo for $133,000. In 2002 I sold it for $195,000. Made about 60000 dollars on it, I will use that money to buy something in AZ.
Heres a place in Cave Creek AZ, about 30 minutes out of Phoenix. Nice condos on a Golf Course. I like the 2nd one for 55,000 dollars. I will check these out when I go.

Can I tell ya something SPECIAL about AZ...
Sence the 40's they been using it as dumping ground.
WHAT WAS, the out areas around Phoenix THEN, they are building ON in the 60's...
They didnt keep records of WHAT was buried, and some places have them MIXED, and benezine is being released.
Suggest chenical EVAL before you BUY ANYTHING...(PRIVATE and out of STATE)
(and you wonder WHY its cheap.)
what was that movie, about a lady that work with lawyer, about contaminated water and land??? It was TRUE and its AZ

I'll have to check out that movie again. I think Ed Masry was involved in this, He is a City Councilman here where I live..........Jim.
Wasn't portland ranked 3rd or something? I thought Seattle ranked #1. $150k gets you nothing up here. We spend $250k on a 10 year old house in a city not known for having decent living (luckily our neighborhood is decent.)
well,
lets see...
Nevada 50 miles away, 3-5 hot springs, Fishing, Sun Valley/ketchum 100 miles...
