Dvd Burning

Can somebody please offer me some assistance?

I'm completely new to this game and really don't understand anything, so simple terms would be good!

I'm trying to burn some films to play on my ps2, without much luck!
I use winavi 5.8 to convert these avi, mpg etc files to dvd format, then try to burn them with nero 6 but every time i try i get the message, that it has failed.

Now from reading the threads, this seems to be a fairly common problem, but i really don't umderstand the replies, can someone explain how to do this in VERY simple instructions for me?

I'm using a LITE-ON DVD+RW SOHW-822S burner from my compaq pc if this helps any.

Also any links to some freebies that might help would be good.
