Thanks to PDABuzz (www.pdabuzz.com) for this one...

An organization called CollectiveGood (http://www.collectivegood.com/) accepts donations of mobile phones and recycles them in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.
Benefits from this are Charity Donations, Recycling, and helping people in the developing world.

Seems pretty interesting, and I know other organizations such as The House of Ruth, takes donations as well

Check it out (http://www.collectivegood.com/)

So do you have to mail them your phone? I have a couple old cell phones sitting in the closet that I don't know what to do with.

What a way to FORCE small nations into the 20th century.
Give them cell phones, and then Sell them service..

What away to get money from POOR countrys.

I think they can pay with horse files now, that way it is not a monthly charge. Pay for Play.

Do they really donate them to third world countries? Places like China would make MORE sense.

to think..
Tiawan, japan, china... To the US, Europe, England.. Then to the POOR countries. Those ones that Dont have phones...
Give them all Cell phones, so they can talk to Others with there Cell phones. Insted of putting up a Telephone net work, you put up Cell phone towers.

Well when you don't have the right kind of trees to make into telephone poles, or in Japan's case, it is cheaper to lay cable in the ground between towers than it is to use trees to hang wire from.

Nothing wrong with a cell network instead of a telephone one because it is alot cheaper and quicker to get setup. Less wiring involved.
