View Full Version : Replacing a dead USB port on notebook

I have a Gateway m505 and the rear USB port is dead from heavy use. It is "wiggly", "loose", and non-functional when I plug in any USB peripheral. Has anyone ever tried to replace a USB port on their own on their personal notebook? I'd like to hear some feedback.

I've thought abt sending my notebook back to Gateway to repair the port though the thought of being separated from my notebook for a prolonged period of time is nauseating... and for one dead port, it doesn't seem worthwhile just yet. BUT my Gateway warranty ends at the end of the year.

I do have two other USB ports on my notebook on the side of the notebook which are accessible, and I do use them, but I am afraid that since I use them quite often to connect with my hubs and peripherals that eventually they will meet the same demise as the rear port.

Any advice and feedback on extending USB life, repair, and maintenance is greatly appreciated!
