Can you guys think of the most secure way to implement an electronic voting system here in the US.
Do you think our current system could be improved?
I know the idea is still new but maybe what Diebold or whatever other company is making these electronic voting machines could have made them in a better way.

I honestly don't know enough about it to comment on how it could be improved, but I do find it ridiculous that people complain that electronic voting is insecure and should never be used.
The current manual system of voting is extremely insecure, and errors (and fraud) are rampant, not to mention the fact that there is no verification that one's vote was recorded correctly.
I think the benefits of electronic voting greatly outweigh the risks.

I still don't know why we have a voting process that requires you to go to some local building to cast your vote. Why don't we just impletment a online voting system. ??? !!! I hate waiting in lines and that would be much easier. I'm no CTO, but give me a couple hours of brainstorming and I could nail down an outline of a secure online system that would be the most accurate, easiest to use voting system ever designed.
Why not a portable PDA that ALL have to take care of, and takes 90 pieces of ID to get.

I don't know about you, but I don't have to go down to the local school to vote, it's really not that hard to vote absentee....Voting really isn't that difficult.
If we ALL had a PDA for voting, that hooked straight to the Phone, and dialed the needed numbers and CAST the vote...WHY NOT.
We could also Download current bills, and laws and VOTE on them.

If it was web driven you could access it from your PDA. It is a bad idea to do voting or other business transactions on a wireless connection thou. The website should strongly suggest that voting occur on a hardline. It would be hard to prevent people from using PDA's, but I think they would get the idea if the site explained the security issues with doing such activity over wireless connections.
Thats why i suggested DIALED numbers, HARDLINE....
Can you see a trunk line doing 1 million access....LOL.
