What is your connection to the NET???
56k, there is NO real solution.
128k, better but still lacking there are choices.
512k- faster, GREAT... LOTS of options. EVEn VOIP..

but,
56k doesnt have enough speed and tends to lock up the computer. Data being sent back and forth is to much, esp when you have more then 2 persons.
Higher speed, more ppl, and less problems and better quality.

Not REALLY.
I can say try it, as long as you wont have to pay for it to test it.
There will be a lag. The program will wait for you to finish talking then SEND. This will take a couple seconds before its transferred. Almost like a walkie-talkie.
Heavey, or long conversation will lack.. Which could be good if the other person is very wordy.
A conferance call would be almost a waste, but it can be done, as long as you dont talk much you will hear almost everything, but there will be about a 2 sec lag, as the modem brings ALL the conversation to your computer. After its IN your computer it takes nothing to SAY it.

What about Ventrillo or teamspeak? These are designed for gaming, but I use them for regular chats once in a while too.

Dont know, IF you know...
But DirectX, under DXDIAG, in the network section, can be used for chat...
IF anyone can figure it out..

you have to KNOW which channel Skype is using and goto the Firewall, and OPEN it..
