It could be a couple things. Your memory and CPU. Download and try memtest86 to see if you have bad memory. Also try putting thermal grease on your CPU or a new heatsink and fan to see if that helps.

Most likely its one of those two problems. Your PSU sounds powerful enough for your system.

yep, that could be it...COULD.
Re-seat them and check the pins on the board.

Another option...
right click "MY computer", system properties, Advanced, Startup and Recovery, Setting, Under SYSTEM FAILURE, UNCHECK Auto reSTART.. for ANY FAILURES...

This is something thats been happening...

thanks, my system has not restarted, but am concerned if there is a problem that it may get worse or cause other conflicts etc... my new tower will be delivered by friday, once i install all parts in there with extra cooling i will see iff it continues, maybe even borow a stick of ram... but my mates are tight and i will probably have to buy a 128mb just to see... but hey, another 128mb cant go astray!

<added> well just installing anti virus an.....restart. guess i best be getting a 2nd ram stick to find out. :censored

:cheers my new tower was delivered, installed everything into the new tower and voila, it works. My guess is there was a short on the m/board.

Thanks for your help

the is NO software to TEST windows XP from DOS.
TEST hardware yes. And it isnt nice.
It takes a card insert, program, and tests all harware and ram, and is anywhere from $30- $120. And a tech manual to read the codes.
