A study conducted by the Arctic Council which consists of about 300 internationals researches, have stated that the ice cap is warming at twice the global rate. This high rate of warming could lead to substantial rises in sea level.
"The projections for the future show a two to three times higher warming rate than for the rest of the world. That will have consequences for the physical, ecological and human systems," Pel Prestrud, vice-chairman of the steering committee for the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment (ACIA) reported.
The Arctic will loose nearly 60% of its ice by 2100 and that by 2070 the Arctic will be so warm it will no longer have any ice in the summer.

Where did you find that on their site Ioman?
I found this report that they are working on.
http://www.amap.no/acia/index.html
But it won't be released until after Nov. 8th.

Actually I found it at OVerclockersclub.com but they linked to that site, so I posted the link too. Must be in a report somewhere on there, unless they expect us to pay for it.

I was thinking that the information could be fabricated by someone on overclockersclub... I guess we will have to wait a couple days to find out if its in the report or not.

Did you know people get tax breaks for buying large gas guzzleing vehicles if they write it off as a business expense?

Yup you can thank Bush for that one. There are a ton of people riding around in Porsche Chayenne's here because they can do that.

The study projects that in the next 100 years the yearly average temperatures will increase by 7 to 13 degrees Fahrenheit over land and 13 to 18 degrees over the ocean, mainly because the water absorbs more heat.
Forests would expand into the Arctic tundra, which in turn would expand into the polar ice deserts, because rising temperatures would favor taller, denser vegetation. The areas of Arctic tundra would shrink to their smallest extent since 21,000 years ago when, humans began emerging from the last Ice Age.
Sea levels globally already are expected to rise between another four inches to three feet or more this century. Longer term, sea levels would rise alarmingly if temperatures continue to rise unabated, in the range of 5 degrees to 11 degrees Fahrenheit over the next several centuries.

Sounds like 'low lying place will soon have MANY problems..
I'd aim at 10' above sea level, and start buying property..

But that uncertainty may have shrunk somewhat with the release last week of two scientific reports suggesting that global warming is not just a hypothetical possibility, but a real phenomenon that has already started transforming especially sensitive parts of the globe.
Overall, the reports say, Earth's climate has warmed by about 1 degree Fahrenheit since 1900. In the Arctic, where a number of processes amplify the warming effects of carbon dioxide, most regions have experienced a temperature rise of 4 to 7 degrees in the last 50 years.
Hey I know lets invade more countries so we can get more gas and continue to output massive amounts of CO2.... That'll be a good way to send us into an ice age in another 1000 to 2000 years...

The Arctic is warming twice as fast as the rest of the planet because of a build-up of gases from fossil fuels burned in cars, factories and power plants, according to a report by 250 scientists from eight countries this month.
That could make the North Pole ice-free in summer by 2100, driving species like polar bears toward extinction and undermining indigenous hunting cultures, the report says.
