I think you forget to mention how expensive CF memory still is. I found the 1GB IBM MICRODRIVE priced at $289.44 on CDW. I think the cheapest (pricewatch) price on the net is $220 from Digi4me.com.

Now lets look at the price of Apple iPod's!
I found it online for $287 from Myinfinity.com. That seems like a much cheaper deal.

The total price of the Frontier Labs NEX IIe would be $115+$220 = $335! Now look at the difference in storage. The iPod has 5 times the size of the CF. I have heard from a good friend (CS major) of mine that the microdrives are not as stable as HD because of the way they are manufactured. While I don't know if this is true, it is something you should consider.
Do you want to pay more for less storage and less stability? No I don't think so. Save your money and buy an iPod.
one bonus of using compaq flash instead of an actual hard drive is that it can take somewhat of a lick and keep ticking. If you drop your ipod, the drive will most likely be toast. If you drop the CF card, it will most likely be OK.
Other things: CF = less moving parts. You can buy CF cards that are up to 1 GB.
Micro drives are not as stable as CF cards. They can fail, etc.
that said, $287 for a 5GB iPod is freakin awesome!!! That is a serious deal.

Actually I think what he was reffering to was the amount of time that the media would still be writeable. In other words the HD should be able to read and write longer than the Microdrive.
I wonder if the microdrive and the HD was dropped from the same hieght, which would be more likely to still work. I would have to guess the Microdrive because it has less Mass and the force of the fall would be less of a strain on the parts. Then again they are microparts and less force would proably do the same amout of damage as more force. It only takes so much to break something, once you have achieved your purpose no reason to continue on breaking it.

Where can you buy one of these? I have not seen it on the net other than the home page.

If you have tried all the major resellers and can't seem to find them, than I would take that as a sign that they might not be out yet. Save your money, buy an iPod :)
