Call me crazy, but I always thought downloading something you didn't own was illegal? How about you guys?
If it has NOT been released in this country, its LEGAL.
This is WHY so much is BEING released here, NOW.

hehe ECA that is entirely not the case bro
i looked into it because i was curious and it is still copyright infringement if you would like to know more i can get you the links or you should check out that article it explains it pretty well
The trick is that the OTHER countries dont BACK our copyrights. AND THEIRS dont extend into the US.
Dont consider what OURS says about other countires.
IF we didnt produce it, there WONT be any legalities, as they are NOT like the US companies with $100million to back them in court.

sry dude wrong again the trips agreement is the connection of the laws i actualy looked this stuff up man
their copyright laws do extend to use but it is us or canadian law enforcement responsilbe for bring the violators to court it isnt even the japanese governments rewsponsibilty it is the duty of the publishing company and thats why we can download anime easily because its a waste of their time untill they actualy start to distribute it in northamerica. so even though nothing will come of downloading the anime it is still illegal
^_^
they have no resource in the US to follow it up. Until a publisher HERE, publishes it, no one will follow up.
As you SAID.
And considering the US Gov, PAYS China and japan for comercial rights, and copyrights to BE inforced(and they AINT)... WHY NOT.
90% of Japan animation was made YEARS ago... And NO-one in the US has seen most of it.

There are international copyrights that protect that content, so yes it would be illegal.
You guys both make it hard to read this thread. ECA's capitlization and |AO|'s ebonic talk lol Just teasing you guys.
It doesn't matter if someone follows up with it here in the US or not, its still illegal.
So is Jay walking... But its a major pass time in this area.
It come down to this:
If its been released in the US, generally from a US company. SOMEONE is watching, and if they catch you... IM sorry.. Its like $10,000 per offence(per copy/Per video).

According to |AO|Good2kno it is illegal to download it because their copyright laws in Japan extend to here in the US.
He also says that it isn't likely that our government would come after you, but I am not sure if this is really the case. I have heard about people mass producing CD's of software and movies being busted. He infers that if a major publishing company here in the US started releasing all these anime's in the US that they are more likely to purse legal action.
Let me try to make it more clear based on risk. Remember that the amount of traffic coming from your router as well as how many anime's you have shared can draw attention to you. This is assuming that you take steps to prevent these things.
Lowest Risk
------------
Downloading a couple of your favorite anime eps. (episodes)
Lower Risk
------------
Downloading a larger collection
Medium Risk
------------
Your hobby is collecting every single anime you can get your hands on
High Risk
-----------
You have taken trips to Japan and brought back anime's with the intent to setup and sell pirated DVD's on the net.
yep,
And the idea that ANY P2P(person to person) file sharing can be monitored by any company, just by hiring a group to belong to the P2P.
Much easyier to Use the Newsgroups, and insert phoney data, and Ghost your connection location.

Right
and I am sorry if I made it hard to understand what i was trying to say.
My whole point is answering the question of is it legal?
and the answer is no it is not legal.
Will you get busted for purely downloading anime? NO
Will you get busted if your start selling the anime around your town? If its only lisenced in japan then probably not but you are pushing it
Will you get busted for Distributing anime if it lisenced in north america? Most likely
Now let me again make it clear that my point is that downloading anime is indeed illegal no matter what you say, that is unless you live in denmark, if you live in denmark the gtfo your fine.
ECA seems to think that he is proving my wrong by pointing out that its like jay walking everyone is doing it so whats the big deal?
well i know a lot of people who smoke pot and only one of them has been charged. Now he is on porbation. Just because a lot of people do it doesnt make it right or legal.
im not saying wether it is wrong moraly, that is for everyone to decide for themselves.
BUT IT IS ILLEGAL.
thats all im saying ^_^
Again im sorry for my ebonics ive been hooked on phonics for 2 weeks now and i think its getting under control.
