Quote: “Once setup had all the required information, it got busy. Twenty-five minutes later found me in a giddy state as I explored my new operating system. For the several days I played with Linux, it ran steady as a rock, albeit slightly sluggish in my opinion. However, a little more tweaking would probably take care of that.”

When all is said and done, both OS’s offer a fairly straight-forward installation. However, RH 8 receives kudos for its plethora of customizable options. Would I recommend one OS over the other? Definitely not, solely because it would all depend on your specific OS needs, which in the end should be your guiding factor on choosing an OS.

That LUUUSER should have kept RH 8 installed on the machine.

I'm a big RH8 fan, actually most RH versions. I don't like all of the default settings, but it works nice, but XP on a 350? YIKES.
You can get it really trimmed down, there is a ton of garbage running by default on all versions of RH, but you can strip it down as much as you like and it can be significantly faster.
Just my $0.02

It's all about the Red Hat if you are into Linux. They are the major distro.

Someday when I have more computers and a better connection, I will be able to try all the odd ball distro's.

Maybe go for a big multiboot !

I want to try Gentoo out some day.. that's supposed to be a dope distro. Compiles everything during install. Yes, its a longer process, but then your machine r0x0r5 afterwards.

He didnt say if it was a P2, or a P pro either.

The Only differences I see in the OS's, is for playing GAMES, and Price. Have you PRICED XP Pro? It would be Neet if Game makers would Port to Linux. There is a Market.

What would be GREAT, If MS made a Windows for GAMES only, with alittle IE built in. But, I dont think they can do it. More programs would work better if, They set there drivers in there OWN main DIR, insted of setting them in the Win dir. And then Running ONLY when needed, NOT when windows STARTS-up.

I think you are going to see alot more games for Linux these days. If they have to make it for Apple and the underlying architecture, software speaking, is BSD than it shouldn't be all that difficult to port it over. I know Quake 3 has a linux version. I wonder how many other TOP games that we can find for Linux these days. Anyone find a good Linux gaming site that might list these for us ?

Check out Tribes 2, it is in linux also.
What is funny. is that ALOT of Game makers MAke the games Under Linux, and then PORt to windows and Add DirectX drivers. Its a REAL pain.
Wish they would release the Linux versions.

But, FEW companies will release Something they DONT know, if it will MAKE money.
