Ok check this out...just sat at my computer, and noticed that my floppy drive light is on, and there is no disk in it!
When I try to access it, it says "please insert a disk into drive A:\"..Even when there is a disk there.
Any idea's?

I took my drive out and somewhat apart and it didn't look like anything was stuck....

depends on the drive, there are a few differnet ones.
OPEN it, and look towards the front section, door area.
There are 2 indicators. These can be mechanical, or LED's(infrared, no light seen). These must be cleaned and operating.
ONE is the DISK inserted indictor.
TWO, is the HD/LD indicator. Checks for High density(1.4meg) disk, or 720k disk. There is another format.
DUST and dirt, and UN-use is the MAIN problem with these drives. They seldom get cleaned. And the Fans SUCK dirt into them.
Why do you need the floppy disk, if you do NOT need it, you can turn it OFF, in the bios. GENERALLY, they are not used alot any more, as DATA is so large, its useless.

Unplug it from your Motherboard. Then it will boot fine!

How often do you use your floppy drive anyways?

I think you can pick them up for like $5 bucks so feel free to take that one apart and not worry about actually getting it back in working order.

Have you recently unplugged the ribbon cable to the floppy drive?

The most common reason for the floppy drive light remaining on is when people put the ribbon cable on backwards.

Unplug the ribbon cable from the back of the floppy drive, turn the cable upside down, then re-insert. See if that helps.

Dan hit it on the head. If you have the ribbon cable in backwards, then the light will always stay on and the drive won't be able to read disks at all. Try plugging in the ribbon cable in the other direction (on the floppy drive side not the motherbaord side).

Hah you guys are awsome. Everyone I talked to suggested the same thing. I'm at work right now, but I'll try it when I get home.
And yep, last week I replaced my rounded floppy cable with a UV rounded cable, so thats prob. what it was.

lol yesterday I had that thing all apart...I even put it all back together! Go Serif!:D

Thanks guys!
