The most popular one is SETI@Home, the search for extraterrestial life using radio telescopes and you. I am running Folding@Home right now, its cool!
I found on my quick search for this thread that there are alot of distributed projects going these days. You can choose from projects in Science, Life Science, Crytography, Internet, Finanical, Mathematics, Art, Puzzles and Others! I want to know what projects you guys find interesting. What have you used in the past and what are you using currently?
I found a good list of them on this site.

If you are looking for a better graphic designed site than you can follow this link instead. Although I found the first site to be organized better.

Hey that makes two of us! Too bad DT is not large enough that we can start our own team. It's prolly a little late after the fact to be able to compete with the others anyways.
I joined teamicrontic cause they were on the list and they are apart of Bizzbum. Their number is team number is 93.
With the new Google toolbar I think you can contribute to this project. They are projected to win if you look at the graph. This is prolly because they will have so many users.

Yeah that would rock of DT had a team :)
I joined Pimprigs team since my days are mostly taken up by Pimprig and Designtechnica(and DT doesn't have a folding team :P)
I didn't realize there were other projects out there other than SETI and FOLDING...thats awsome :D

Ya I don't think there are enough people on this site to allow for us to compete in the rankings. Icrontic has close to 700 people. I don't think realisticlly we would be able to get anywhere that number. Look at the size of their forums and you will understand the difference in size.
Now we might be able to snaggle their team into getting them to rename it to teambizzbum or something, since they are apart of the network. I'm not sure how much authority Ioman has over the sites on his network. If we did get it renamed than anyone from the network of sites could add their CPU cycles without feeling left out because they don't visit Icrontic everyday.

So what can we do tto get more people in the forums? Our actually site gets way more traffic then both Icrontic and Pimprigs combines, but our forums seem dead....

Have everyone tag our forums on their other sites that they visit. Something similar to your Bizzbum tag would work. Not sure what else.

Maybe expand the forum topics so people feel more inclined to post? I like it the way it is, but other people might think that the topics are too general in nature. We could also add topics, but I am not sure if we can add sub topics. I can't really say for sure if these changes are going to get more people to post. They are just suggestions.
Do you know how the refferal system works?
What about changing the little V logo to something that is more centered around the site. A little DT would be cool. I could make one np.
We could always update our vBulletin software to 2.2.8. Speaking of which, I am assuming that you pay the $85 dollars a year to liscence the software. That pricing scheme is a bit much, but I suppose for good forum software its not too bad.

I've posted links to our forums here many a times in pbreview.com (paintball site)..
Specially dealing with that NOMAD Jukebox Zen thread and a few xBox threads :)
Anyways, just like all the rest of the members, I'm all about promoting DT :D

yeah, sweet...I've got no qualms about telling people about this place. I mean you guys are pretty inviting to having new people get in here and talkin' so I'm down with that....some boards just have a kind of attitude that I just can't deal with...I think DT suits me fine....oh well, off to bed

I figured out how the refferal system works. It was right in the FAQ the whole time. I haven't tried it out yet.
I am not sure where I would get my unique link. Maybe all you need is your member id or something. Somebody try it out to make sure it works. Create a dummy account.
Of course if we do implement a prize system than we can't have any cheating, increasing your refferrals through dummy accounts would be considered bad in that case!
The administrator may have enabled referrals, which allows you to be credited for any new users you invite to the forum.
You gain referrals by promoting Designtechnica Forums using your unique referral link. The link you should use as your referral link is this:
http://forums.designtechnica.com/index.php?referrerid=1546
Each time someone follows this link to Designtechnica Forums and registers as a new member, your referral count will be incremented by one. The number of referrals you have can be viewed in your profile.
Your administrator will have more information on any prizes or rewards that may be given out for referrals. Please be courteous when promoting Designtechnica Forums by not spamming other web sites with your referral link just to gain referrals.
