Looking through the mods posts, you guys seem to be very cagey about releasing information which could be used by other sites, but you don't seem to have any qualms about reposting articles from other sites without linkage. Any reason for this seemingly one-sided approach?

What are you talking about? I bet the stuff we quote from other sites has a corresponding link 99% of the time.

The mods edit links with a refferal id because we don't want people to use this site to decieve people in some Multi Level Marketing Scam. Those type of marketing scams aren't legal in the United States and sure as hell won't tolerated on this site. We also don't like posts/spam from people who sign up and their only post is some bullshiat about hey come check out my site cause I need more traffic.

I'm not sure I follow either. Can you give a specific example? We have no problems releasing information. In fact, if other sites use it, great! We always would like a link back. However, that always doesnt happen. We always link to information we get from other sites.

If you mean editing posts that link to scam sites that farm email addres and use referall IDs, you bet we mod those out. Those types of posts are a bad reflection on the community here.

All right then. Search for ioman's recent news posts for example. Most of them are verbatim copies from other sites without appropriate linkage.

Ioman is not here to defend himself, but you will never see news posted in our news section of the site http://news.designtechnica.com that is someone else's without a referral link. We also will never duplicate someone else's story. We just post a blurb with a link to read the full story.

The forums are more of a personal side, and I'm sure he is just posting stories he finds interesting himself, and wants to share with others. He can respond if he wants when he gets back from vacation.

I dont understand your comments on us being cagey about releasing info others might be able to use?

And this site tends to be MORe critical on MOST hardware, and software then MANY sites...
sorry to say, but 2/3 of the sites out there are PAID to make a GOOD comment.
If this site did it, I would REALLy be OBNOXIOUS..
We debate about stuff alot..
Current Tech Vs Old tech
PROVEN hardware Vs New Crap

I pointed out LONg ago, If a product doesnt have a BAD side, its not a product, its a dream... And I aint had a DREAM product... dont care how many bells and whistles it has. Theres ALWAYS a problem some place.

Looks like Neato busted me! I just posted a bunch last week before I left to visit the in-laws out of state and I didnt post links. But its the forums and not the news site so its not that big of a deal.

I will try and make sure I post links on everything in the future if that will make everyone happy :)

Oh and those news stories were from CNN provided by the Associated Press. If they were original from a smaller site like Engadget etc, I would have made sure to have linked to them (I know they would get mad otherwise).
