The Shure E5c's not a bad earphone to start with. It's pretty comfortable and the sound is quite well balanced although it's lacking some treble. The quality's good and it isolates a lot. Retail is $500, but current online prices can go for about $350-380.
If you can't spend that much then the Shure E3c's are worth considering. A more nasal, less bassy sound compared to the E5c but still very clear. It offers the same isolation advantages as the E5c and is almost as comfortable to wear. Retail $180, net price about $140.

All right all right, you said there was no limit  What's your budget then?

ECA
12-27-2004, 12:57 PM
yes, you can hear threw them...but they still sound good, its an accoustic trick, even earbuds use it. It drops Echo effects and causes less damage to the ears..
Speakers MOVE air, and a closed Cup headphone causes PRESSURE on the ears.

Draxthor
12-27-2004, 08:31 PM
lol... ok ECA thats some stuff i dont know... =.= u know 2 much.... lol... that good or bad ? haha :) what do u mean be speakers move air ?? anyway... Neato i said about $300 Aus dollars... u all live in America?

ECA
12-27-2004, 10:05 PM
US, mostly...

Yea, look at your ROOM speakers... See that tube, with nothing in it... That speaker moves about 10 inches of AIR when the base Vibrates... place you hand over it while its playing..

HEADSETS, use larger spearkers then EARPHONES... How would you like your eardrum takeing about 2lbs of pressure if it was closed. GREAT sound, but it can cause alot of damage.. so, they opened them up. and this gives you ability to HEAR whats happening around you.

Major shipping port, should check with singapore... GREAT place for goods, as MOSt are made there.

WOO~~ but if its banged up... isnt it like scatched and stuff?? can u get still good condition ones ??

ECA
12-31-2004, 01:53 AM
Broken crates cant be shipped.

and when they swapp boats, and change cargo around, theres always some breakage.
Should be a shop or 2 near the docks that sells the stuff, get in good with them, work for them.
Even the salvation army, the good stuff gets picked over by the workers FIRST.

Draxthor

I am going to try some Sony ear buds. The Creative Zen buds are killing my ears - they are just too big.

ECA
01-04-2005, 11:59 AM
most should work, unless you got some monsters, or crap ones.
You may suffer from 1 thing tho, They wont play as LONG. They may suck abit more power..
so what, you dont get 6 hours, you get 4... But does it SOUND good?

neato

The power required to output sound to headphones is considerably less than the drain from the hard disk or the display. On the other hand "Should work" and "will work well" are totally different things. As I said, list them and I'll tell you for sure whether they're suitable or not.

E888SP = yes
Sennhesier HD650/HD600 = no
Audio-Technica ATH-A900 = yes, but too big / not portable
Etymotic ER-4S = borderline, ER-4P will work much better
Shure E5c = yes

Low-cost recommendation: Shure E2c
Mid-cost recommendation: Shure E3c or Etymotic ER-6i
What I mostly use: Shure E5c

Still on headphones, but changing the focus......I need some for listening to my iRiver iFP799 mp3 player while I do my 4 mile walk/jog. The need then is for some 1. That will STAY ON, without causing pain (probably that "street" type where the headpiece lays at the back of the neck would be best) 2. Where the wires don't hang down in front bouncing around and catching on stuff 3. That have an easily adjustable volume control (it's tough to adjust the volume on the player when moving) 4. That have a 'strain relief' of some sort so that the wires don't give out (I think I've been through 20 headphones where one ear just stopped working one day) 5. Deliver reasonably decent sound for when I get home. 6. Don't cost over $100.00.

Anyone come across the "perfect" jogging/walking headphones? Thanks!

LloydS, a lot of people try and use clip-ons or even in-ear isolating phones for jogging. I don't jog, but I think that from a safety and comfort view you're probably better off with the likes of the Sony MDR-A35G, folding banded earphones which lodge in your ear. They're surprisingly stable in running operation, and Sony's design of upwards-sweeping earpieces make a lot of sense (sweat doesn't drip into your ear).

Draxthor, I use the HD650 for listening to the PC and sometimes to listen to my secondary CD-based set-up. It's a home-use-only phone and is primarily designed to be driven out of dedicated headphone amplifiers. I have several amps, but currently I'm using the HD650 out of this (http://headphone.com/layout.php?topicID=3&subTopicID=27&productID=0010050000).

My recommendation for the Zen will be the Sony MDR-EX71SL in-ear buds if you're on a small budget (sub US$50) or the Shure E2c in-ear phones if you're willing to spend a bit more (US$70). The Shure E3c or the Etymotic ER-6i are also good at about $140.

Headphones? The folding Sennheiser PX200 is useful ($50). The MDR-V700DJ is heavy, uncomfortable, bulky and you could do better sound-wise, although it looks pretty cool. Sony's MDR-7506 / MDR-V6 ($70 ~ $120) is also good. Beyerdynamic DT250-80 is clear and comfortable although not very portable ($150).

One thing to remember,
Every persons EAR/hearing is different. Neato is giving you options.
If its possible, Take your item into a store and LISTEN with the headphones you wish to checkout.
Comfort is also a concern...I know ppl that cant use In-EAR, phones. they just hurt, or get uncomfortable.
Headphones can be Clunky, bulky, heavy and a pain to wear.

there are so many designs and styles, you MUSt find the ones you like. NOT us..
Find a friendly shop that will lone them to you, or return them in a day or 2...IF possible.

If the Impedance is between 16 ohms and 32 ohms. Your Creative Zen should have enough power.

LloydS

If the Impedance is between 16 ohms and 32 ohms. Your Creative Zen should have enough power.

So (and please excuse the ignorance) the higher the impedence of the headphones, the louder the headphones can play, all other things being equal?

(And by the way, many thanks to neato for the suggested 'phones for this exercising fool)

neato
01-09-2005, 02:32 AM
The impedance is only a guide. The lower it is, the lower a load the portable's amp sees so it should be able to drive it louder. The impedance is averaged across the frequencies that the phone can play so it's actually not the same all the way.
More important as far as volume is concerned is the rated sensitivity of the phone. The higher the db/mw rating, the louder it'll go regardless of the impedance. 110db/mw and upwards is a good place to look for less powerful portables.
