Bought my son the IRiver 120 for x-mas. Even being a software engineer (but not a gadget person) I am finding it really difficult to use. His main reason for wanting this was to put all his rap stuff on the unit directly from his stereo. The guys in the shop said that the Iriver was the best thing for this. But I dont think they knew anything about it. Even though it is recording its not taking the name of the CD - even when we copy the CD to the hard disk on the PC and back onto the Iriver (and then its taking them in as WMF files). A few questions to start

Do I have to log on to the web with the IRiver connected to get the best use of this?

How can I change WMF files to MP3 files?

Does anyone have an easy way of recording your CD collection from the stereo to the IRiver?

Sorry for being such a dope here. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Are you using the iRiver software for ripping your CD's with? Also does the 120 support Microsoft's Plays For Sure standard? Neato can probably help you when he catches this thread.

Try using Windows Media Player 10 to rip your music. It will grab the artist, album, genre information from the web and then create the appropriate tages for you. Then just drag and drop the folders over onto your iRiver player. You will need to go into the Windows Media Player 10 settings and tell it to rip to MP3 at the compression rate you want. I think it will try and rip the music to WMA by default.

Hope that helps!

First of all, I'd just like to know I'm not getting the wrong end of the stick and that you aren't trying to record directly from the CD player's headphone out to the iRiver. There's not much point in doing this if you are trying it... it's much better to "rip" the albums on a PC.
