Need to remove ietlbass.dll Trojan Horse

[Teamlampoil]

Have this Trojan Horse on my home computer it has disabled my internet access. Norton was up to date and can not fix it. I have added the Spybot, Adware and other software but since I cannot get online I can't do a live update so they have not been very successful.

Search for the file. and delete it..
sometimes it wont do it...
Dump the trash..

THEN while in SAFE mode... run a DEFRAG on the drive... Right click the C: drive, tools, DEFRAG.

I have run defrag in safe mode, I also searched for the ietlbass.dll file in safe mode and could not find it anywhere. I searched Hidden files & folders is there something I am doing wrong?

Search wont look into the WINDOWS dir, unless you do...
ALSO show hidden...

I was able to download the new virus definitions for Spybot and Adaware to a file from this site and saved them to my infected computer. After running both and deleting what they recommend, I no longer get the pop up from Norton about the Trojan. However I still cannot access the internet.

On the bottom of the Internet Explorer page it says

Downloading from site:Res//C:\Windows\System32\Shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm

Also when I turn off the computer it has to manually end a program called hpcmpmgr.exe?? Do you know anything about this?

I could post another Hijack log if that would help let me know.

When did the internet last work, What day?

Perhaps a System Restore before it stopped working would work. But we would have to delete the Spyware again,(which we can do).

Set it back to a day the internet worked.


Start/All Programs/Accessories/System tools/System Restore.

I restored the computer to before it happened and it is still not working. I noticed something else though.

When I try to go to a site that has a search engine on it like msn.com instead of just getting a not available deal, i get a pop up from internet explorer saying that it cannot open the search page. So looks like this trojan is forcing a search on any page that has a search engine??

If this works, I would suggest RELOADING IE..
TRY add/remove program...system components..Have it check IE...
If nothing ELSE, grab one of those AOL/earthlink/such disks, and LOOK on the disk. THERe is an installations of IE...RUN it.

You may want to set the date back a week before. i'm guessing your Norton found it during a weekly scan. It could have occured anytime before the 4th and the last time you scanned(a week before).........Jim

I tried the random IP address and I get the
same pop up from IE saying that Internet Explorer could not open the search page.

I tried the system restore more then a week before it and still get "page cannot be displayed" or the pop from IE talking about the search page.

I connected the same plug to my other computer and it works so it is definitely the computer.

This trojan disabled my internet access and it did so like 10 minutes after norton notfied me of its presence.

Cannot find a AOL disk will see if I can get it from work tomorrow.

Any other ideas?

I searched for files modified on 1/4. Norton notified me around 10:30 something that this trojan was on the computer.

Anyway there are two files that were modified around the same time.

both in Windows\system32\CatRoot2 one is a text document edb and the other one says edb.chk says it is recovered file fragments.

You know what these are??

I cannot find IE on add or remove programs and when I try to delete all files with Internet Explorer on them it tells me that it is in use from something else and cannot delete it(was able to delete many but 20% of them gave me this error). Tried Safe mode...told me same thing. WHen I tried to load the new IE it says that it detected one already installed and cancels installation.

Ok I went in and deleted Realplayer.exe and rebooted. I can now get on limited internet pages. i.e. my home page which is my email and msn.com. However whenever I click on a link on msn it says page not available. Plus if I sit on MSN long enough I get the pop up from IE saying it could not open the search page.

Hi Sorry to jump in on this. I'm from the Uk and suffered from exactly the same thing.
To regain Your Internet Connection, In Internet Explorer Go to Tools><Manage Add Ons. In there ther should be an Item called DOMP class, which states its a browser help object (some Help!!) the class library is ietlbass.dll. Click on the item the whole line will be highlighted) and then at the bottom of the dialogue box select disable. his renders the add-on as inactive, then you'll be able to reuse the internet properly.

I have tried deleting the dll (its location is c:\Windows\ietlbass.dll but it comes back, still can't find a way of completely removing it. Consisdering re-loading Internet Explorer from micrisoft.com see if it overwrites the add ons.

Right, here's how to gi rid ofthis thing. (Its a browser Hijacker & Spyware called Collwebsearch). Copy and paste the following link into your browser (after disabling ietlbass.dll) http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
There you can download the AntiSpyware Beta program, run this and it will detect and remove this menace. I just have and my PC is completely rid of this.

For a change I am impressed by microsoft, before this i'd downloaded, spybot, ad-aware and run the pcpitstop online tests and non of them found this.

Sorry forgot to answer question, yes I do have a mail account through charter.net. It seems like it is the only site that I can get to with any regularity.

I have to try a couple of times to get to any other site and it seems to give me a "site not responding" after a certain amount of time.

I have been following this thread as I too have been infected with this one... I used Adaware and then saw the post regarding the MS beta spyware. Downloaded and ran it, and it found 2 of the ietlbass components. I chose to delete them, of course, and thought I was in the clear but every time I reboot I get a warning that CoolWebSearch is trying to install. Obviously there is still something onboard my PC. What now?

On Adaware and Spybot Delete what they find, Remove cookies, Temporary Internet files,Empty Recycle Bin,

I also have this trojan on my computer, I have used Norton, spybot, spyware doctor, adaware, housecalls, macafee, all are up to date but nothing works. Norton quaratines the file, but cannot repair it, I delete it from the quarantine section but it comes bcak when I reboot. Please help!!!

I deleted those two files and went onto the internet add manage add ons and there was no DOMP class to delete. Rebooted here is my new log. Now I cannot even get onto my email home page. I have my internet security settings set at Accept all cookies so that should not be preventing access to sites. Also downloaded the Microsoft spyware deal it detected one Adware program that it recommended to delete which I did. Rebooted and still no internet.

Hi Been on a small vacation and come back to find I had spoken a bit soon. The Microsoft Antispyware beta go rid temporarily but it came back on re-boot.

However ran antispyware beta to remove most of it, the ran hijack this and found the file nightowl had mentioned RealAudio.exe deleted this, and a few other entries relating to cws (coolweb.search) and it has gone!!!! (fingers crossed)

I've attached the Hijack this log below and marked the other entries I deleted, hope this helps.

There are some superb guys out there helping to advise on how to remove this like nightowl, thanks to all of you for what yopu've posted I could never have removed this without that help. Also www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/ was another great source.

WE or he removed it, and it killed parts of IE.
The site I sent was about RELOAd of IE, from MS, even over RECENT version.

ECA, tried what Microsoft recommended and it still will not allow me to re-install ie6. Keeps saying that it detects a newer version.

I called dell and am working with them to see if they can help me as Norton was worthless.

Well worked with Dell for a couple of hours with no luck re-installing IE. Kept saying that I already had a more current version. So backed up everything important and reloaded everything yesterday.

Everything is working fine now.

Guys thanks for your help. Hopefully I will not need it again now that you have educated me on all this spyware #$%#$#$. Its pretty cool that people like yourselves are out there helping people out.

Yea sometimes when it keeps having problems the best thing to do is start over. Download SpywareBlaster for prevention.

Run and Update Adaware and Spybot at least once a week to keep it clean.
Update SpywareBlaster once a week Enable all Protection and let it run in the background.........Jim

Sorry about all the problems.
Spyware is as bad as virus anymore.

Whats REAL funny, is HOW windows is setup.
If they would have created the OS and then LOAKED it so nothing could get to it, and added directories for LOADED programs, INF, DLLS, and such..
You wouldnt have to even touch the OS sections to fix things.
