View Full Version : Kernel Errors

I recently had some problems with pop-ups and elite tool bar, etc.....
I've recently been getting instances where my computer will freeze up, restart and a blue screen comes up stating some sort of KERNEL error and the last line on the bottom states something about a physical memory dump..........
I am also unable to run my Norton Antivirus Software --- I get an error message saying Symantec Integrator cannot be found....
I know this is not normal and can't afford to keep taking my computer in for fixing.....
any help you can provide would be of great benefit...I'm reasonably proficient with computers so I can maneuver around a bit...
Um,
Tap f8 when starting, go to SAFE MODE...RUN AV...(norton)
What this GENERALLY is, is RAM running out. But could also mena that HD space is running out.
windows 2000/xp needs 256 megs to run. If it runs out of ram, it will use the HD..10 megs for every 1 meg that it wants.. If it needs another 100 meg, it will TAKE 1,000 meg(1gig+).
I would suggest:
While in SAFE MODE, not much works, but KILL all extra programs, esp those that USE the internet...Wetaher bug, stock tickers, Tool bars.
Find your IM programs(and others) and have them turned OFF, until you TELL them to turn ON... NOt to start when you turn computer on..
Once you dome this, come back, and tell me hows it doing..
We have other things to do/try.

Norton will not operate...it says the INTEGRATOR failed to start..i've had this message several times before...I have also attempted to reinstall Norton and get an error message saying "installation failed, an error has occurred" or something to that effect...
I cannot access the internet in safe mode -- i do not have a dial up connection and cant access my AOL/Roadrunner connection through safe mode
I've also gotten error messages about my AOL Media Player not working to play files...
My computer is :censored up!!
It works for awhile, but then freezes up...it was just fixed, but now my AOL, Norton Software and Windows XP are all screwed up...
NOTHING works, very well, in safe mode...
Its the BASIC, of what WINDOWs needs to work... Its the best place to kill stuff.
Only audio and video BASIC drivers are even loaded.
DO you have NORTON, or did it COME with the system??
You are ON AOL??
I will tell you NOW, you have a SERIOUS infection... DId you PAY for NORTON, if you did, i would suggest going to them.
There are Virus and BOTS that tell certain software NOT to work, or try to kill your software..
Can you get to ADD/REMOVE software, in SAFE mode??
If its REAL bad, the only option is to RELOAD, EVERYTHING...It aint fun, and updating will take about 1 week to finish..

I have Norton which I purchased on my own...
I can try to get to Add/Remove in safe mode...but then what?
When you say remove everything, you're talking AOL, Antivirus, basically everything....my computer is an HP, so I don't have the Windows XP disk to reinstall it back on -- this was done with the computer and when I had initial problems I was told to hit "f10" when the blue HP screen came up and I could restore XP without problem....obviously that didn't work....

I moved to spyware section ...
you have an INSTALLATION of windows on the machine...Its hidden.
I would ask if you made an Emergency recovery disk, with norton.
I would TRY to reinstall norton.
I would remove the BELLS and whistles...Esp the internet ones...FIRST..
Dont know, but there SHOULD be a recovery, section after taping F8 also.. Its a windows standard, unless HP took it out.

i have tried to reinstall Norton....it quits about 1/3 of the way through with an error message...
Should I proceed with removing all these other programs still even since Norton does not appear to work?
Should I restart the computer and tap "f 10" and run the restore again?
RESTORE is just that..
Its not a reinstall.
did you do F8, and see if it had a RECOVER..
If its REALLy this bad, i would check your warrentee, and take it in... Or call HP and ask HOw to reinstall EVERYTHING...scratch, erase it all and start over.

Nick,
This old thread..
And an offer like this should not be posted in public. It could get this site shut down, FAST.
