Can you record on Lyra RD2780 and then transfer asf to PC to play?

I am looking to buy the RCA Lyra RD2780 to record shows from my VCR and watch later. I was wondering if you can transfer the recorded video file back to your PC, and then if there is a media player that plays the MPEG4-SP ASF file (format according to what I read in manual). Does Windows Media Player 10 play it?

I always read people talking about transferring files TO the lyra, not the other way around.

[Update] I recorded 10 minutes of a DVD on the RD2780 and the file played on my PC with RealPlayer 10 and Windows Media Player 9. :thumb
