Hi,
I had a problem with xp pro and removed it and put in a new copy of xp home.
Problem now is when booting up the system asks which os to start up. If i do nothing xp home starts after 30 seconds. If I select xp pro - nothing!
How do I get rid of the choices ?
** WARNING, this may cause your system not to boot ANY os. Edit at your own risk (and make a backup before editing!)
open c:\boot.ini in notepad
Look for
[operating systems]
Under that, you'll have two lines, one for each OS loader. Mine only has one, and looks like this:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
Remove the one for the OS that is no longer installed.
The /NoExecute=OptIn is a XP SP2 only flag, so dont worry about it if you dont have XP SP2
BTW, never should have happened if you had formatted your hard drive. Most likely you have a bunch of ghost apps on your machine now.

Thanks for the reply, I'll have a go at this. I didn't format the drive as I was trying to keep data.
Cheers
