View Full Version : Bad stuff wont go away -ietlbass.dll & CWSanalizeIE

Ok, I've acquired this horrible ietlbass.dll trojan and a CWS variant. I have read the threads on removing ietlbass.dll. I've tried all the ideas that appear relevant to my system, to no avail.

Anyway, from the beginning. Running Windows XP sp2 and fully up to date. NAV and NAT firewall for protection. Spywareblaster, spybot S&D and adaware SE personal installed and checked regularly.

NAV alerts to ietlbass.dll file. Have denied access, quarantined, deleted but always reappears on reboot. Sometimes it appears as a zero byte file but NAV kicks up anyway. Sent file to Symantec who tell me NAV will deal with it. Yea Right!

I downloaded and ran every spyware removal tool I could get - Ewido, Spysweeper, SpySubtract and CWSshredder. Spysweeper tells me I have CWS_analizeIE which it removes but it reappears on reboot. The others have picked out bits, but I am lost and frustrated. The best I can do is a manual clean each time I boot up the system but something alien is lurking inside!

I can provide my HijackThis log if required.

Any help/ideas greatly appreciated. AND please talk slow, I am ok with most things but get a little anxious tinkering in the registry!

Graham

Hi Jim

Thanks for taking the time. My log is coming up. I forgot to mention that Spysweeper also throws up AddClass and MSMsgSvc as problems which it removes but are reported again on reboot. I am also getting an odd response in that right-clicking on a folder causes all windows to close and the sytem tray to lose several icons (sometimes)! Anyway here is my log and mny thanks for your time and trouble-

Yep it's all part of the file. I assumed it was to do with Mozilla. I have all the browsers installed for checking compatibility on my web design course

he also has the FUN one...(SVC)

You have something running that is ADDING services..
This could be ANY internet TOY...
Weather bug, Stock ticker, small Internet games....
You NEEd to clean this ALL up...
Add/remove programs...
REMOVE ALL the suff you DONT KNOW/DONT want/DONT WORK..
MORE then 1 anti virus program, confusses AV programs.
MORE then a FEW antibot, programs only get in the way of each other..
LEAVE norton on..
Adaware
Spybot SD
Spywareblaster
Hijackthis..
these are the programs MOST use...try to kill the rest..

REMEMBER, its easyier to CLEAN it here, and need to RELOAD it later....Then to have the computer DIE...

Yea some programs called Get Right and Roboform(not sure what they are or if they are needed) May have something to do with the SVC?

Mooncoin, do you know what these 2 programs are?..........Jim

ECA
01-14-2005, 08:14 PM
roboform is a FORM fillin program, its not needed, and shouldnt do SVC.
Getright is download manager, SAME there..

I want THEM to remove, FIRST what they can...If we remove STUFF, we may kill what they wanted and what was causeing the problem,,, BUT leave the rest of the program.

I hate droppers. The old mothership concept. I've wondered if some of these FREE spyware killers don't drop crap on your box to prove their needfulness. ECA is right about slimming down the searchers. I use a few removers even though there is redundancy they are safe. I don't see anything strange other than what is listed to clean.
Sometimes I open taskmanager and sort processes by cpu access. Watch for what is hitting the processor. Sometimes it wil give me a lead. Many times a blind alley.
I did have a box in the shop once that I solved by finding the time stamp was off. The prog had changed the clock update to a malicious site. That was what led me to the dropper.Weird huh?
Yah jus gotta luv it!

Many thanks for your help, Nightowl.

I have always had spywareblaster, spybot and adaware installed. I kept them updated and ran them at least weekly.

I hate to bad mouth Microsoft, but when all this happened I had their antispyware thing installed and lots of little odd things kept happening. I've removed that and it may only be a coincidence... but??

Anyway thanks once again.

Good fortune to you

Graham

Thanks Graham, Glad I could help. You're not the only one who badmouths Microsoft. LOL

I have been reading posts and trying to clear the ietlbass.dll problem from my pc for days. It always came back...but I did notice that everyone had the globalstartup:realaudio exe file in their logs. I had that too and when I removed the ietlbass.dll file and the realaudio.exe file it hasnt returned as of yet (two days). Does anyone think there is a tie in with both files? I do not use real audio on my pc...just wondering? Take care - Gary

Yes they are related. Sneaky little buggers

Its NOT realaudio..
Thats just a LINK on where to Start the program..
Its probably located in a MAIN folder, and NAMED realaudio..It shouldnt be the REAL file..

And if it IS, the REAL file, then it was infected/replaced..and AV should have caught it.
I ALWAYS set my Av to search ALL files, even BMP, GIF, every thing.. It takes more time, but is worth it.
