Take a look at:
ZOPE + Squishdot...
It's free.

http://www.zope.org/

I built a site using ZOPE & Squishdot a couple of years ago. It's pretty simple to set up if you're not using Apache. I was and had to learn a few things about Apache's mod_rewrite module.

zope can be a huge pain in the booty (at least from my experience with it.)

Hmmm... I kinda liked it. Maybe I be a masochist. ;/

Squishdot & ZOPE was my first experience with CMS and dynamic content. It took me about a day to get Squishdot up and running on a dedicated server. It didn't seem too hard. The pain in the ass was getting Apache to play nicely with ZOPE. The version of Apache installed on the server did not support mod_rewrite so I had to upload the source and build a new version.... another first for me, compiling from source on a remote server. Fun stuff.

WinSCP might make those SSH sesssions go a bit easier.

Remote administration ... yea! =/

I use ssh from www.ssh.com for all my ssh needs, including uploading if need.

is it a GUI?

Is a GUI necessary for ssh? I'm pretty happy with the command line myself, but I have no requirement to bind other services to ssh.

Yup. You can download for free the non-corp version. It has shell and scp. their scp is just like an ftp client. There are some flaws with it, like it doesnt like to do 0 byte files i think (some people use 0 byte index.html to keep people from viewing dir contents cause they dont know how to turn of dir reads and package them with web scripts..ugh)

for some things when transferring files from a local directory to one on the server the GUI i find to be faster than command line. what i mean to say is some things can only be done on the command line, but for file transfer I preffer a GUI.

Edit/Delete Message

we should make a thread that shows them how

obviously there is no such thing as a gui for the command line, this is just a gui for scp (for windows.)

There are a few ssh clients for windows, and i like this one the best.

Have you guys tried PuTTY? Back in the days when I was still using Windows I thought it was pretty cool. With the QuickPuTTY utility for the System Tray it works out quite nicely for telnet/ssh/rsh....

it is a nice lil set up - I need a decent cms to get my review sites up and running...

www.adminreviews.com
www.perlreviews.com
www.phpreviews.com

Only thing holding me back is a good cms that is geared toward reviews, which none seems to be.

I also have www.hardwareviews.com and www.softwareviews.com (look closely its not what you might first think) - but I don't think I will ever do anything with those.

Custom in house one. It borrows some modules from a couple CMS packages, but its tied together with our own CMS.
