Hi everyone: I really appreciate what you're doing here. I'm kind of a tech newbie myself, so I'm not quite comfortable fixing these problems without some assistance (especially since it is my dad's computer that i'm trying to fix...i'm a mac man myself).

I've run spybot search and destroy and adaware to no avail, as well as following a previous posting's advice on how to get rid of this problem (in the isearch forum), and upon restart it reappeared. Anyhow, here is the log from hijackthis:

Hello.

I have the same nuisance on my computer and it is also preventing me from accessing mcafee.com and computerassociates.com.

I downloaded 'HijackThis' and followed the procedure, except it did not find the file, 'pcsearch.reg'. I did a find file via explorer and this file was not found, therefore, I'm guessing the version I have may have another name.

After running the HijackThis procedure, closing the application, and closing the web browser, and even going as far as restarting my PC with 'Restore...' option disabled, the nuisance came back. When I didn't restart and I reopened the browser, the search was gone but later the browser was again taken over by the 'menu' where I had to 'end task' for all browser windows.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. btw - I had emptied recycle, temporary internet files, and cookies after the HijackThis and before restart.

Download Spybot, AdAware, (Links Above)

On Adaware and Spybot Delete what they find, Remove cookies, Temporary Internet files,Empty Recycle Bin,

Then scan with HijackThis. Save log to desktop, Copy and Paste log to message board.........Jim

Thanks for your reply. It looks like I--search not only included preventing access to McAfee, but to spybot and adaware, also. Looks like I have to try other routes.

FIND process explorer.. It SHOWS you whats running, Right click and shows WHAT ran it.
ALSO regMON, is cool..have it RUN at startup, and it FINDS everything loading(before it goes away) and AUTO RUN...
When you get the listing it in TXt format, and you can search the files we listed, and KILL THEM and the loader..

Thanks to everyone for the replies.

I was finally able to get rid of i--search! I am also able to go to the McAfee site as well as Computer Associates, and download.com. It (or some other pest) blocked the sites that had the anti-virus, spyware- and adware-'antidotes'. Pretty sneaky! It took all of the following programs since each addressed only certain areas (not sure if Ad-Aware would have found all of them or not since it was the last one I used): hijackthis, spybot, and ad-aware in this order. Ad-aware got rid of I--search and also unblocked 'download.com'. Spybot gave me access to McAfee and computerassociates.com. HijackThis was a wonderful way to monitor the files' existence. Overall, those various buggers are pretty powerful and I didn't realize there were soooo... many on that machine! Again, thanks to all, including this GREAT forum, for your help.

P.S. ECA, I am going to take a further look at the 'http://www.sysinternals.com/win9x/98utilities.shtml' because I like what you said about the utilities. Thank you.
