This is the movie?
In a utopian society created at the end of the third world war, a female warrior who has been plucked from the badlands begins to see cracks in this new facade. And what does this community have planned for the rest of humankind?

Well I actually searched netflix yesterday and I didn't see it? maybe it was just me..
Now with online renting...
I used netflix for...3 months now and it's a great service. Shipping time was pretty fast and they have a WIDE selection.
As of yesterday tho, I cancelled my service. Blockbuster had a promo that started last week. For the first month it's only $9.99, 3 movies out a time, unlimited rentals, AND 2 free in store rentals.
I don't think anyone could pass that up. After the first month, the price goes back up to $15 tho.
So I stopped netflix yesterday, since today is my billing cycle. I'll try out blockbuster for a month or two...and then consider going back to netflix.
One thing with blockbuster however, I heard their turnaround and shipping time is horrible compared to netflix.

Ok, I just saw this one in the theatre last night, and.... I'm still buzzing off of the aural fruition I received from this film. If you thought my rant about Ghost in The Shell 2 was commending, then be prepared because I have an annex of praise stored for this one!
From the outset, this movie does NOT disappoint, I feel like I'm in a sort of Mad Scientist rage of hilarity as I type this, but they have truly elevated the standards of anime to an amazing height! The quality of the art was stellar, the backdrops and scenery gave you a sense that you were briefly transported into this world. Definitely gave it a true sense of realism, and this is something I'm a bit peevish about when it comes to sci/fantasy films, something I didn't get from "I-Robot". But this film, a lot like G.I.T.S.1 & 2, did an excellent job of wrapping this technologically advanced society around you, almost suffocating you with audible/visual stimulus and pleasure. Strangely masochistic... Again, another fusion of cell shaded art with digital/cg animation made for an amalgamated marriage of visual bliss. Truly blurring the lines of graphic art and photography. I don't know how many times I must have blurted out "that looks so real". It really seemed like the artists involved with this film were just showing off.(-; Silk like animation whose smoothness could rival the inline six in my BM'. The quality and crisp clarity of the visuals throughout had the razor sharpness to precision cut a cadaver. Absolutely stunning.
I don't think I need to say much about the action sequences. But again, no punches pulled for innovation. The scale of the battle scenes had an epic nature of their own. I could have easily walked out after the opening sequence and felt like I got my money's worth.
The cinematography and direction were perfect compliments to the graphic art, all to assist in the enveloping sensation of the atmosphere. I find this achieved much more impeccably in anime than in live action films. The 'Lord of the Rings' series, "Minority Report", "A.I.", the "Dune" and "Children of Dune" epics, and the "Star Wars" films are a few of late that come to mind that I think accomplished the deceptive feat of lifting the production off of the sound stage. But it's not just visuals. An engaging plot involving the total eradication of the human race, unifying and unstable society of differing species, and of course, militaristic and political motives make for a very gratifying, quality experience. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and can't wait for the DVD. :thumb
You may still be able to catch it in the theatres. Check the Appleseed website (http://www.appleseedthemovie.com/) for listings in your areas.

Yeah, the movie that most of you are seeing as available on DVD/VHS/etc.. is the original Appleseed anime that was made back in the mid '80's, I belive. I actually saw that film around that time and thought it was great, may be a bit dated nowadays, but still a good watch. Especially if you'd just like to get some history on where the story originated.
This new movie is an updated, (while I'd like to say remake, sharing common titles doesn't actually constitute this one being labled as so) version of the Appleseed story. I believe it hit theatres in Japan last year, where the DVD is already out, and should hit the stores here in the US shortly after the theatrical releases have ended. I have seen it for sale online, there are some sites selling the versions released in Europe and Japan.
