I think 720p looks gorgeous, I cannot wait until 1080p becomes more mainstream.
And less expencive..
It would be NEEt if they REALLY went out and Made TV display as good as computer monitors...1920,1200 would be killer res..esp, on a front projection..
What about MONITOR/TV setups..any news it that area..??

I have Voom and I hear they are going to implement Windows Media MPEG4 compression soon, thus allowing transmission of 1080P signal with less bandwidth. Microsoft is really getting into this - they have 1080P videos you can download and play if you gotta beefy PC at

I want to see a BOX, that sends HDTV to a comp monitor...NOT the computer,,, to the monitor, in high res..
Iv looked already for 1, but it didnt fall out well..ANY ideas, links??

From what I understand, the MPEG2 video streams isn't interlaced, it's full framed.
So a progressive scan dvd player is actually just _not interlacing_ : it's not upconverting, it's just _not_ down converting.
So it's the dvd player that's adding the interlacing to make the signal 480i instead of 480p....
I still want my 1080p though. For all the reasons mentioned and so that it will display computer images properly :)

microsoft sucks, mpeg4 h.264 avc is the future of HDTV especially over the net, cable and satellite.
voom is rumored to be dissolved??? i hope not, but if so i guess they had to pay to much royalties to microsoft for the codec??? LOL...
my 2 cents

Yup Echostar just bought them it looks like: http://news.designtechnica.com/article6353.html
I knew that Voom was struggling, they only had 26,000 subscribers, you know how little that is!?
Sad sad
Thats the real problem...
they want DVD to be 1 format.
Sat another format.
Cable another format.
And NONE whall meet... With NO conversion between them.
They DONT want you to copy ANYTHING.
Video with Audio encapsulated into the video, so there is NO sound track.. and a key for EACh format, and Machine..

THERE ARE 14,000,000 HDTV (DTV)SETS RTIGHT NOW. MANY IN COMMERCIAL ESTABLISHMENTS OR UNDERUTILIZED. PEOPLE READ "FCC TO MANDATE ADVANCED TUNING BUILT IN 2005", SO PEOPLE WAIT FOR HD SET TO BE MADE PROPERLY, NOT EXPERIMENTALLY.
ITS' REALLY ABOUT BANDWIDTH/THRUPUT. TV SET CAN LAST TWENTY YEARS, SO ITS NOT PRICE AS MUCH AS GETTING RIGHT TECHNOLOGY THAT WILL LAST TWENTY YEARS AND STILL BE HEAD OF PACK. 1080P SEEMS TO BE THAT STANDARD. UNLESS UXVGA GOES TV BROADCAST, THERE IS NO FINER SIGNAL TO GAGGLE. GET 1080P SETS ON MARKET IN JUNE 2005 & YOU WILL HAVE TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF INITIAL SALES. MAYBE 10 MILLION SET POTENTIAL AWAITS MANUFACTURER(S) WHO FIRST GET :cheers TO: BUILT IN ADVANCED TUNING STANDARD IN 1080P.SIGNED:PHYSICIAN THOMAS STEWART VON DRASHEK M.D.
