For some reason3 out of 5 of my computers will not even recognize that the H10 is plugged into the USB ports.
It works on both Gateway computers, but not the Compaq system, our custom made test system or my gaming system.
This player is too new to find help, but I am going to call iRiver on Monday to see if they know anything.
If anyone has experience with this player, please let me know what I can do to get my systems to recognize it. Maybe update the USB port drivers or it could be that a drive letter is not being correctly assigned.

Dude i am having the EXACT SAME THING happening to me. Last Friday I bougth the iriver H10, but it wont load on my custom built gaming PC. I have tried everything to get it to work and really dont want to return it as it is by far the best looking player on the market right now. But if anyone has found a driver, or has contacted iriver about this I would really appreciate the help as it sucks to have an awesome player, hundreds of songs, but no way to transfer them, PLEASE, I NEED HELP!

Have you had a chance to contact iRiver tech support? Please call them and post what they tell you. I have been unable to get it to work on a couple of my machines, luckily it works on the one I use the most.

It seems that a system file is getting corrupted and by plugging it into a secondary computer you are actually restoring the corrupted file. This is all theory of course as we have no way of proving this but the fix works. We just don't know how long the fix will last before the file becomes corrupted again.
Please use the below steps to restore functionality.
1. Unplug your H10 from the primary host computer
2. Move to a secondary computer running WinXP and plug in the H10. It should be recognized.
3. Reboot your primary computer.
4. Unplug the unit from the secondary computer and move it to the primary computer (after rebooting) and plug it back in.
5. The primary computer should now once again recognize your H10

The H300 is a great unit itself, I have never heard any real faults with it, except for the fact that it's extra chunky. The H10 is a bit faulty because iRiver rushed on the release of it. Being if you live in the US, you have no firmware to fix some problems. This can be easily solved if you switch your US ver. into a UMS ver. and upload Korean firmware onto it.

I'm also having a problem with the H10 being recognized as a connected USB device to my Gateway PC. I am running XP sp2, WMP 10. I did finally figure out that if I do the following, I can get my computer to recognize the H10 as a USB device:
1. Remove the battery and put it back on
2. Connect the USB cable to the H10 and then to my computer
3. Hold select and power-on (as if I was doing a firmware upgrade), look for the "UMS Connect...." message.
4. Start WMP10 and perform sync.
If I don't do these four steps, when I connect the H10 to my computer and turn it on, I get the "USB Connected" message on the H10 but never get it to connect as a recognized USB device (there is no little green usb in the active tasks, there is no trace of it under "my computer" and WMP does not list it as a portable media player device.) So I have to go through the previous 4 steps everytime, which then causes WMP to add a new playlist entry for it, using the same device letter, just adds a duplicate entry. To get rid of the duplicate entry in WMP, I right click on the H10 playlist, then turn off autosync for it.
I am currently working with iRiver support to try and get this resolved. Here was their recommendation (which btw, did not resolve the problem but did get me to the current firmware and media player license level):

First Make sure that your computer has Service Pack 2 installed.
Then, I recommend upgrading to the latest version of Windows Media Player 10 - version 10.00.00.3802. Do this even if you already have Windows Media Player 10, unless you have this exact numeral version. You can check by clicking on Help in Windows Media Player and choosing ‘About Windows Media Player’.
1. You can download the latest version of Windows Media Player 10 at:
www.windowsmedia.com.
2. Upgrade the security components of your digital media player so you can play protected files on your computer. If the Upgrade button is greyed out your computer is already updated. Here is the link:
http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp
3. Format the device to ensure that any existing multiple root licenses are removed from the device. Different players are formatted differently. Please check our support pages or your player’s manual for instructions on how to format. The H10 5/6GB player can be formatted by doing a firmware upgrade. Please call our support line for instructions on how to format the H10 20GB player.
4. Apply a hot fix. Future syncs (transfers) will not result in multiple root licenses being copied to the device. The link below provides the link to the hot fix file:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/7/e/0/7e055e3f-6014-43bc-b6ff-6a90ced1d032/WindowsMedia10-KB902344-x86-INTL.exe
5. Save the file to your desktop when prompted to save the file.
6. Follow the on screen directions to install the patch.
7. Once the installation completes click Finish.

Here is the response that I received from iRiver support:

The reason that you can only access your music through the Browser is because your player operates in a different mode when you press and hold the two buttons. Unfortunately, if you've tried all the steps and it is still not recognized, that player may either be defective or your computer does not recognize mtp devices, which is the mode it normally connects in. Try connecting your player to other XP computers. If the player is not recognized, it is probably defective. If it does connect and show up in My Computer, then the problem lies somewhere in the computer. We've found that sometimes updating the motherboard's usb drivers works to get it connected, but they are supposed to be in the new version of WMPlayer 10. This hasn't worked in many cases, however. Unfortunately, when everything has been tried, either you must use it how you have been using it or you can take it back to the store if you are within a month of purchase.

I had almost given up but then found this post on the mystic river forum:
"I selected, control panel, Add/Remove Hardware I got a message asking me what I wanted to add. The H10 was the first thing listed with a little yellow box next to it. It then went through the usual add process and I got the message MDH added."
As a result, my H10 is now connecting as a USB device and being recognized by WMP10 as a portable media device.
Thank you rabidpanda!

I had the same issue than you Guys.
I came in this morning at work and plugged in my H20.
Surprise, no drive was showing up while it had been working for more than a year without any problem.
I searched for awhile and found that the H20 was getting assigned the G drive (using the Windows Computer Management \ Disk Management)
However we recently started to use the G drive as a new network share making the H20 invisible!
I guess that Windows should have assigned a new letter, but no. I therefore change it manually to another letter via the disk management and everything is now working fine.
I am not going to dig further to know what the exact problem is...just happy that it works!
Hope this can help.
