Help!

I'm really having trouble with my computer being hijacked. I've tried everything. Adaware, spybot, AVG, then going to safe mode and deleting all the spyware I could find and also hacking away at the registry. But as soon as I go back to normal windows it all comes back within 15 minutes. AVG reports that a trojan is detected and whether or not I tell it to kill it, it sets up all the spyware and popup things again.

So, I've resigned myself to the fact that I need assistance in order to get this right. My windows is fully updated and here is my hijackthis log after I've let the computer sit for a while.

You need to kill KALV First. Heres How.

Go to Safe Mode (F8 on startup)
You need to do a search on your computer and look for any files where the first 4 letters begin with KALV

kalvwvn32.exe

may be several on your computer.

When you find these files you need to rename them. You need to remove the exe and replace it with the name old so the file looks like this

kalvwvn32.old

(The Files may not have wvn They can be any 3 letters but the first 4 letters are always KALV)

If it works, you can go back to safe mode, and search "*.OLD" And delete those files. Empty Recycle Bin.

Reboot and post a new log.

Still In Safe Mode Delete all Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, Do a Defrag on your C Drive, Empty recycle bin.

Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disc Defragment

Then Reboot and post a new log..........Jim

Did all the things you said, though I've already tried everything there except for the defrag. Thanks for taking the time to help. I'm really considering formating the hard drive and starting over.

I also took away kalvsys again like you said in your first post. I don't know what it means but when I tried to start the computer afterwards, it crashed and on the second restart I was forced to go to the settings that most recently made a good startup. Otherwise it would just crash again. Here is the log though.

Actually, I think I'm going to call it quits. Those stupid trojan programmers have defeated me. For every trojan I kill, three new ones show up. I'm thinking partly about how much time I've spent on trying to get rid of these things and weighing it up against how much time I would have spent just formating my drive and reinstalling everything.

And as long as I'm not able to kill the part that is reviving the trojans, I have no way of winning this battle. Possibly there's some hidden startup area of windows that has been infected or maybe one of the windows files has been infected.

Like I've said, I'm giving up. I'm cutting my loses and starting over with a fresh hard drive tomorrow. I don't have anything on the computer that I'm not able to reinstall, so I figure I'll be saving time by doing it this way. I'm having trouble figuring out what the trojan/adware people are getting out of all this. I don't see how they can make money off of destroying people's computers. Oh well...

Thanks goes out to the people who have been posting on this forum and others, especially to nightowl. I've had adware problems before and have successfully removed them without any complications with the help of the forums. It's dedicated people like you who keeps the sanity of regular PC users intact.

If I've learned anything from this it's been to not use microsoft internet explorer anymore. I've switched to an alternative browser. Second thing I've learned is to be more critical about where I download things and which sites to visit. I was not aware of how severely a computer can be infected because you visit a random website. I think I've also learned one of the many reasons why some people prefer linux.

I'm really having trouble with my computer being hijacked. I've tried everything. Adaware, spybot, AVG, then going to safe mode and deleting all the spyware I could find and also hacking away at the registry. But as soon as I go back to normal windows it all comes back within 15 minutes. AVG reports that a trojan is detected and whether or not I tell it to kill it, it sets up all the spyware and popup things again.

So, I've resigned myself to the fact that I need assistance in order to get this right. My windows is fully updated and here is my hijackthis log after I've let the computer sit for a while.

You've got Kalv. Heres How to fix it.

Go to Safe Mode (F8 on startup)
You need to do a search on your computer and look for any files where the first 4 letters begin with KALV

kalvwvn32.exe

there may be several on your computer.

When you find these files you need to rename them. You need to remove the exe and replace it with the name old so the file looks like this

kalvwvn32.old

(The Files may not have wvn They can be any 3 letters but the first 4 letters are always KALV)

If it works, you can go back to safe mode, and search "*.OLD" And delete those files. Empty Recycle Bin.

Reboot and post a new log.
