I had been getting help on Majorgeeks.com forum, and finally they told me they do not know how to kill these hijackers, and That they are so new I may need to format my hard drive.
Can anyone here help?
I have downloaded, updated and run Ad-AwareSE, SPybot S&D, CCcleaner, and several others - nothing seems to work. Attached is my latest HJT log. If someone has time, please have a look. Thanks. :(

Folks on the Majorgeeks.com forum have told me that this infection is so new, that no-one has figured a way to remove it yet. How long can I expect to wait before a fix becoimes widespread on the web?
Weeks? Or more like Months?
Thanks!

I dont see much here on your log. Only a couple of things look bad.
Reboot To Safe Mode (tap F8 on Startup)
Place a check next to each of these and click Fix Checked.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cvswvlik] c:\winnt\system32\cvswvlik.exe
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.finefind.nettraffic2cash.biz
Still In Safe Mode Delete all Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, Do a Defrag on your C Drive, Empty recycle bin.
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disc Defragment
Then Reboot and post a new log..........Jim

Ok - I followed your instructions (defrag had to run over night) and rebooted. I have attached the log. I did a search after I rebooted, and noticed a bunch of elitetoolbar stuff was back in my/system32 folder.
I could not find any of the dddd.exe stuff.
I think this stuff comes back after I open IE - not sure.
Anyway - here's the log. I am going to scan again in an hour to see if more stuff appears. This thing is nasty!
Thanks!
ps - it is back - I got a popup while I was copying & pasting the logfile. I am going to scan again right now, and post.

Ok - this stuff is definately back - icons on my desktop, popups etc. I scanned with HJT and there is a bunch of stuff that I have removed in safemode before. I also noticed in the properties on one of the icons on my desktop the address: \\ http://in.popupblocker.com \\ and a bunch of other addresses...

This wasn't on your original log. I think its what you were talking about being a new Spyware. Its bad. I was working on a log with this the other day, It just got worse and worse. Best thing to do is reinstall windows. Bring it to someone who can actually see it. Bring it to an Independant computer repair guy rather than some of those Discount stores. You should have faster service with someone who knows what hes doing.Make sure they save all the programs and other things you may need........Jim :eww

Ok - I was worried about that - now I have 2 opinions to re-install.
The guy helping me on Majorgeeks.com Said if I wait a few weeks, someone will most likely find a fix, and it will be on the web. Would you advise this? or start over with a re-install?

Yep, Its still there, Either reinstall or wait till a fix is found. I dont know how long it will be, It seems like a nasty one.
If there are any advertisments that pop up because of this. Find out who they are and contact them, tell them what its doing to your computer, Tell them you want to know how to fix the problem. Perhaps threaten them with a lawsuit.........Jim

hey craab, found your post doing a search since I'm in the same boat as you... it's been a pretty ugly battle the last few days. I know how you feel! I've been over at the bleepingcomputer HJT log forum and I've seen some different approaches to what's been going around. Just though I'd throw another option out before you go for a restall...

Try this fix:
1. Boot to safe mode. Then on the Run command type this:
regsvr32 /u "C:\WINNT\EliteToolBar\EliteToolBar version 59.dll"
Or
regsvr32 /u "C:\WINNT\EliteSideBar\EliteSideBar 08.dll"
if these file exist on your C:\drive.
Now, you can delete these 2 folders from your pc.
Next open regedit go to the goto \hkey_local_machine\software.... DELETE the folders "Elitum", "Ohbackup" if they exist. Now navigate to \hkey_local_machin\software\microsoft\windows\curr entversion\run....DELETE the entry c:\winnt\system32\eliterfe32.exe if it exist.

As always with browser hijack. to temporary disable them, Open IE , Goto Tools, Internet Options, Advanced and uncheck : "Enable 3rd party browsers extensions" . This should disable most of the common browser hijack

Hi:
Here is the fix to clean MiracleSearch off your system. Goto the web site DOWNLOADS.COM and download SPYWARE DOCTOR. Also update it if needed. Run a full system scan and select "CHECK ALL" to clean up any spyware programs that come up. Then set this program up to run in the background everytime you power up. You can run either a full scan or quick scan. It may take more than one pass but it will do the job, at is a great program. I used it for the same problem you have, I had the elite bar try to come up a day later and it Knocked that out for keeps.
Hope this solves your problem
Good Luck
That is Electronmans FIRST POST...
