HEXUS.NET reports that there may be problems running Athlon XP2700+ microprocessors in Abit's A7 MAX2 motherboard.
While this board apparently will recognise 2600+s clocked up to 2700+, a real 2700+ fails to work with the board.

Hexus said that it has spoken to Abit about the problem and that the firm has said a BIOS update is needed to run the microprocessor.

No BIOS update is yet available on Abit's web site, however.

BOO I hate this motherboard now

You will find it suprising how many boards do not work "out of the box" with ANY Tbreds. Many need a BIOS update before even powering up with a Tbred leading to a chicken and the egg situation in regards to people buying new combos. Buy a Tbred and say... a Asus A7V8x and how do you flash the BIOS?

The whole situation is daft at the moment.

This is my first AMD system, and I am slowly finding this out. Either its the AMD CPU or the VIA chipsets that are having issues. No wonder most OEM's use Intel systems....

but for the dollar, AMD is sure good.
