Hi

So my nokia 6610i might not be the whizziest phone around but it has an infrared port on it and I'm wondering since I've successfully sent and recieved info when transferring files with my PC why I can't programme this port to communicate with my TV and fullfill my life long dream of turning my phone into a universal remote control. Since that's not unbelievably different.

I've tracked down the remote codes for the devices I need; so now I need some software, right ? Is this possible ? Coz I don't see any reason why not at the moment. And if no programme exists and it is possible anyone got any idea how I could go about making one. Presumably it would be possible to write some kind of Java app that could do this ? Or is the infrared port control side of the phone isolated from the rest of the os ?

Cheers dudes,

Donnie

You can't control TV with nokia S40. There is no java app at the moment for controlling, there have been many atempts to make one, but all have failed. So it's probably futile for you to try and make your own java app, and to even try that, you must be a wiz at programming.
Java is yust a platform it doesn't comunicate with hardware the way that symbian or windows applicatiions do, so that's why java remote controls don't work.
And btw, mobile phones don't have "consumer" Ir beam, so the range of mobile phone-remote (like on my Nokia 6600) is one meter at the most.
If you reeeealy want to controll the TV with youre phone, get yourself a cheap symbian phone, but belive me, it's not very good.
