Jeez, do we have to have a freakin camera on everything these days?

So I can get 1GB of MP3s on each disc? That's sweet. My love affair with Minidisc may about to be reignited...as long as I can get a slimmer version with no camera, something like the MZE10.

wow it only took Sony about 4 years to wake up and see they missed the Mp3 boat.

Also, can this MD record music LIve via Mic AND (drum roll please) copy the digital file directly back to the PC???

Sony crippled this ability in previous MD player/recorders...

I think the MZ-DH10 (the one with the camera) is just a downloader. The MZ-RH10, MZ-RH910, MZ-RH710 can record via line-in/mic AND THEY CAN UPLOAD TO THE PC.

You need like SonicStage 2.3 to upload, and then you need to convert them to WAV, using http://sonyelectronics.sonystyle.com/walkmanmc/wav.html

I know they're coming out with SS 3, hopefully it won't be as bloaty or stupid.

That orange MZ-RH10 is extremely sexy. O_O

Maybe I should ditch buying a micro HD DAP, and wait for the MZ-RH10 to be released. =O

Actually i believe that the Sony RH10, RH910, NH1, NH900, NHF800, and, NH800 all have a mic line. So all of these can record via mic or line-in. The MZ-DH10 does not, unfortunately, have a mic line or line-in. Though if you would like to preorder the MZ-DH10 you may do so at the following link (it will release in May 2005). It is $499 and as of the time of this post they are offering free UPS Ground shipping:

Also, can this MD record music LIve via Mic AND (drum roll please) copy the digital file directly back to the PC???

Also with the addition of Hi-MD there IS now the ability to upload to one's PC any sound file recorded via a mic or line-in. This is however limited to being done only 1 time per file. Though one time is plenty! Also it was my understanding (correct me if I am wrong somebody) that it can only be done from a Hi-MD disc, not a standard minidisc.

Check this out:
http://129.33.22.7/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=75,E=0000000000500886889,K=1759,Sxi=2,Case=obj (357222),TS=External,UseTemplate=response_case.tem

Also, the following is taken from http://www.sony.net

Whether it's your CD, vinyl, or tape collection, or your own recording through a microphone, you can directly record their content on your Hi-MD Walkman. But the technological advance from Net MD is that you can upload music data recorded directly on Hi-MD Walkman to PC using SonicStage software at the same 100x high speed as when you transfer music from PC to Hi-MD. And the music data that's been uploaded to PC can be transferred to any other Hi-MD Walkman, Network Walkman, or burnt to ATRAC CD.

Hi-MD Walkman can directly record from the unit, through the analog or microphone inputs. PCM mode records up to 1 hour and 34 minutes of material in uncompressed highest quality sound. It's ideal for making demos if you perform in a band or perform solo, or want to record lectures and interviews. Once recorded on Hi-MD, you can upload the content to your PC for editing or conversion to WAVE format using the "WAV Conversion Tool."

As for me I plan on getting the SonyMZ-RH10 which does record via a mic line. What an awesome little LCD Screen.

I'm gonna get one so that when someone asks me what type of MP3 player I have, I can reply in my best Monty Python voice:

"Mp3 Player!? **** off! Minidisc Player!!"

Wow those mini-discs look really sweet - but I think Sony is trying to move into the MP3 market with dedicated players.
