My old hard drive has been failing on me, and i hust purchased a new one. Is there a way i can copy everything over to the new one so it works? I know i should probably just start over, but there is a lot of stuff i need off the old one including the OS.

Thanx for your help in advance,

Timalpr

symantec ghost, trial version should do the job for you.

ghost kicks ass. But, if he does a drive image instead of partition, he might get "non-matching" errors when trying to restore, right? You can restore it using a flag to ignore i think..

But definitely Ghost.

I used ghost 9.0 and selected "upgrading to new drive" it copied everything but when i tried to boot up, it would not boot. Then i used the w.d. data lifegaurd tools which is supposed to do the same thing and when i tried to boot, it said it could not boot the OS.

Any suggestions?

Just get a new hard drive, format it and add the old one as a second drive and copy the data over. Easiest way plus you get a fresh install.

Well, i tried ghost, i tried data lifegaurd tools, and nothing has worked. When i use my new hd as a slave i can see all the files on there, and it is an exact copy, but when i boot it up as the master i still get "cannot load operating system. I even booted from cd rom to try and fix with a windows disk. After it erased bad files and copied new ones i re-booted from master drive and same thing happens. This is really frustrating.
