Got a new Fuji FinePix 2650Z to replace my FinePix 1400Z. Right now I have the 2650Z set at 1MP for pictures just for quanity. Well when I open the pictures they are HUGE. My old 1400Z's pictures were about 4x6 on the screen but instead of 1MP,2MP, etc. It had a setting for 640x480 or 1024x768.

Is there a way for me to open pictures from the 2650z so they are about 4x6 size on the screen? Here are examples of what I mean by size
Picture 1 http://www.ournuccio.com/baz1.JPG from 2650Z set at 1MP
Picture 2 http://www.ournuccio.com/baz2.JPG from 1400Z set at 640x480 Fine quality

Another thing is say I scan a 35mm picture and want to print a 3x5 or 4x6 or 8x10. How do I set it to print at those sizes?
Any other tips you can provide would be great.
Thanks.

OK a couple of issues here.

Image Size vs Capture Size
--

Lets look at the two images to see the difference, this will help us understand what makes them different sizes.

Baz1 : 1280 x 960 Pixels; 628.95 KB (644042 Bytes)

Baz2 : 640 x 480 Pixels; 156.65 KB (160408 Bytes)

Do you notice the difference in size, both in the number of pixels and in the image size as stored on the disk? An uncompressed raw image that you can view is actually much larger for both images. So the answer is; Baz1 is larger on screen because there is more information captured by your newer camera than the older one. That has to do with the size of the sensor that is in the camera.

Viewing and Resizing Images
--

In general, it is always better to start with a bigger image and downsize to what is needed.

The best program for image editing is Adobe Photoshop. There is also Jasc Paint Shop Pro if you don't want to spend the money.

A free program that I would recommend everyone to download is called Irfanview. It is the best image viewer on the market. You can do alot with this program including resizing and cropping, but it is not as powerful as the other two that I have mentioned. I set it as the default viewer for every type of image on my system because it opens them very fast.

Resizing baz1 to the same size of baz2 is very easy to do because the Image size is an exact multiple. Divide 1280 and 960 by two and what do you get?
