My laptop just shuts down on its on without me doing anything. I dont think the problem is it being over-heated because its on a desk. Any suggestions about what the problem might be would be highly appreciated! Thanks.

I have a Satellite and had the same problem. The solution is extrememely simple, and I feel obligated to pass on the information, as it is that I got the idea from another bulletin board. Do this:
1)Go to www.toshiba.com
2)In the bottom left corner of the screen, you will see Quick Product Links, select it and click on Notebook PC's
3)On the left of the screen, click technical support
4)Click Downloads
5)Enter your information (model can be found on the bottom of your unit) on the top part and click go
6)Click Downloads
7)Under category, find the first item with BIOS on it from the top and download it. Follow on-screen instructions. I suggest not using the floppy, but that doesn't matter.
The problem is caused by the fact that the BIOS judge the CPU to be much hotter than it is, causing it to emergency shut down.
Do me a favor, and pass this on to other internet bulletins.
P.S. if you need to contact me, my real email is arnav.guleria@gmail.com. I put the other one to prevent spam.
